Does anybody give a grump?!!

Recommended Posts

Marty and his alien chums have got this 'gender fluid' thing sorted already.

He wears a skirt kilt, so nobody knows for sure.

Ive been to the happy place on this forum.

They are strange, strange.

Then there is the Cat place. I felt quite at home.

Does that mean I have to leave this grumpy place?

It didn't go down for long enough. I'd need it down for a year to be certain of finishing anything....

Tonight's  grump....  that Easy jet pilot documentary on ITV.

Specifically, the continuity editing which shows the pilots allegedly on their

way to the aircraft at Inverness airport going up an escalator past the sign to gates 100-103.

For those who haven't had the privilege of flying from Inverness, last time I was there it had 4 gates

and no escalators as it is a single story building ......

What? TV production playing fast and loose with the truth? I just can't believe such a thing could be possible 😁

It is all about entertainment, nothing is real anymore, other than tings I can see, smell and touch. I don't mind being entertained, but not when it is disguised as a documentary.

The "fake news" issues in the media have come about because the media is no longer able to differentiate between news, commentary, observation and opinion. Now they are blurring the difference between documentary and drama.

I watch less and less TV, because I find it pointless.

You think that was bad. I watched an episode of the Yorkshire Vet this week. Vet goes to do some dental work on a Shetland pony and has to put a load of ironmongery in its mouth. Pony escapes vet’s clutches. What follows is a sequence of shots of them chasing it all over the field to catch it. In some shots the ironmongery is there and in others it isn’t. Clearly two sequences cut together and switched back and forth several times to create the final programme. Laughable...on several levels.

Dunno that the Daily Fail is really in a position to throw mud about stupid gaffes ...

And Meghan and Harry are just following the trend established over here. My niece Louise presented the world with her first-born last Thursday - a boy (my tenth grandniece/nephew). He was "Archie" (full name Archie Jamieson Houghton) almost from the moment she and Pat learned that  were going to have a boy, back in December.

Magazine subscriptions....

Existing subscriber renewal on website = £90

"Special offer renewal" letter coz you've let subscription lapse = £72

Brand new subscriber price on same website = £67

Needless to say I did not renew my existing subscription......  when did Britain change from rewarding loyal customers to ripping them off ???

I don't think loyalty has ever truly been rewarded in Britain they are just most blatant and careless about it being seen nowadays. I  certainly can't remember ever having been really rewarded for my loyalty by any of the big companies I have ever dealt with.

Some time last year I got a letter from my electricity supplier telling me they were putting up my monthly bill by a third largely due to rising energy tarrifs and, if I didn't like it, I should go and switch to another supplier. No "You've been with us for years and years and we value your custom and that you have never been late/missed a payment" or even any sort of apology or real explanation of why they thought I should be paying another £400+ a year just simply "We think you should be paying us more due to rising energy costs and you, peasant, can like it or lump it".

I've had a similar experience, Marty. I was with the same electricity supplier for decades, but felt that I was getting ripped off. I found a better deal and changed about 6-9 months ago. Since then my former supplier has been bombarding me with "come-back-all-is-forgiven-have-we-got-a-deal-for-you" emails, all of which have been ignored. If they can make those offers now, to get me back, they should have been giving the same deals to me before I made the switch.

The funny thing is how they work things. Early last year we got a letter saying that, due to my wife's ill health we were entitled to apply for some kind of discount or government scheme on an annual basis. We applied and were told we were eligible and accepted and then they put up our tarrif by more than the discount/assistance that had been awarded us.

I do have to say that the letter I received before about putting our bill up really pretty much said "This is what we want you to pay and you can pay it or take your business elsewhere" and included a list of comparisons sites etc. where we could go to switch. I guess we aren't worth enough to them given our Air source heating system, recent very mild winters, modern insulation and fairly low all round electricity consumption for them to make any real effort to keep our business.

A pet peeve: using fear as a sales pitch...

today two cold calls... TPS? No one seems to take it seriously!

One: the call from India telling me that my computer is "unprotected". I played the guy along for a while until I got bored, mainly because he was quite good. It is easy to see how people get suckered in to the pitch if they don't really understand how their computer works.

He wasn't fazed by the fact I have a Mac, and had me checking the OS Firewall. It is off, because I use the firewall built into the anti virus, but didn't want to spoil his flow. Once he realised I could be a "live one" he wanted to transfer me to the "specialist". At that point I rang off.

Two: Someone trying to convince me that my PV panels could be generating "too much voltage" and so be damaging my inverter and other equipment. The answer? An additional voltage regulator between the PV panels and the inverter that they can sell me to protect me from the cost of replacing the inverter.

Much as I sympathise  with your friend's predicament, you'd have more luck standing on the shore and telling the waves to stop coming in !   Why on earth would customers want to go back to the days of traipsing round 5 shops and not finding what you're looking for, during limited opening hours, and being ignored by surly teenage shop assistants who if you're lucky enough to talk to will just try to sell you want they want to sell and not what you asked for  ?   Its not Amazon per se  thats the problem, its that Online ordering / home delivery is just a much a better proposition for time poor consumers - which is pretty much everyone these days.
