rs2man
I was perusing various 1/72 Sherman kits the other day when I came across this I was under the impression that Fireflies were only built on the Sherman I & Sherman V variants - is this , which seems to be a cast-hull Sherman II , actually correct ? Does anyone know how accurate the hull & running gear are ? With a turret swap it seems a good way to get a fairly early Sherman II with sandshields , but I don't want to be buying something where the hull is wrong . It looks ok to me , but then I'm no Sherman expert . Any thoughts would be much appreciated . John Green Nantwich , Cheshire
AntPhillips
Fireflies were predominantly built in 3 major versions Firefly Ic small drivers hatch all welded hull. Firefly Ic (Hybrid) large drivers hatch, cast front & welded rear hull. Firefly Vc small drivers hatch, all welded hull. That said, I will consult the Firefly bible tonight (Sherman Firefly by Mark Hayward) there may have been a IIc version, but if there was it was a rarity. One thing I have noticed is that the kit doesn't seem to have a loaders hatch in the turret, so its more of a standard turret with a 17pdr stuck on the front, on the whole it looks like a mish-mash of versions.
