Su-27KIB/Su-33IB "Fullanker" (T-10X Series) in 1/72 scale - Revell/Zvezda/Italeri "What-If Project" (WIP)

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Here is another Flanker "what-if" project I would like to share with you.

After casting the front upper and lower halves of Su-27IB modification, a funny "what if" project came into my mind: Su-27KIB/Su-33IB!...

A little update to original post:

Су-27КИБ/Су-33ИБ "корабельный истребитель-бомбардировщик"

Su-27KIB/Su-33IB "Korabyelny Istrebityel Bombardirovshchik" - "Shipborne Fighter Bomber"

The idea is to combine Su-27IB nose with Su-33 rest parts left from T-10M conversion butchery:

The casted Su-27IB parts seem to fit Su-33 rear fuselage halves without having big issues:

To be continued 🙂

Interesting build, is it really a ‘what if’? You are aware an Su-33KUB exists albeit not in production........

Yes, I am aware of Su-27KUB (or Su-33UB) which has side by side seat configuration with ogive nose cone. But Su-27IB (or Su-34) has "duckbill" shaped flattened nose cone. 🙂

The resin casting parts fit reasonably well to rear fuselage halves. The parts were glued together using super glue:

The result of upper and lower fuselage halves fit test including nose landing gear bay and cockpit resin parts looks not so bad:

The next step is to paint cockpit details and add main landing gear bay side walls before glueing the fuselage halves together.

Depending on part and cut type I use:

1. X-acto blade

2. Trumpeter panel line scriber

3. Hasegawa Photo Etched fine razor saw

4. X-acto precision razor saw blade

For example below I have used Hasegawa PE fine razor blade:

Finally I have painted the cockpit details and assembled all the fuselage parts together:

Also all parts have been put together with magic tape to see the whole aircraft:

The next step is to apply primer coat.

Hi Neffan,

I am planning to use splintered camo pattern:

su-33ubm-blue-733-fullanker-what-if-buil

su-33ubm-blue-733-fullanker-what-if-buil

su-33ubm-blue-733-fullanker-what-if-buil

I think this camo is very eye catching isn't it? 🤔

Here is the camo mask fit test:

764.jpg

765.jpg

Some contours had to be modified due to 2D/3D mapping effect.

Also the nose, panels and fairings were painted to white:

771.jpg

772.jpg

The next step is to mask these areas and apply next colour.

From my another ongoing Flanker project I have now cloned canopy copies.

1015.jpg

I have prepared masks using cutter/plotter:

1033.jpg

Now the canopy will be painted from inner side. Once it is painted and glued the aircraft will be ready to apply primer and camo colours.

That is a lot of Flanker projects. As you are into what ifs how about a 4 seat stretched Flanker or is that just silly ?

Do you mean something like EA-6 Prowler? 😁

ea6b_prowler_ghall.jpg

To be able to do it the the canopy must be designed similar to EA-6 or maybe in Su-24 way...

What about this one?

The engine areas were masked and painted with various shades of Alclad metallic paints:

1556.jpg

And here is the result after removing all masks:

1557.jpg

1558.jpg

There will be final touches at engine areas. But this will be done after painting the entire camouflage.

The painted engine areas were masked with vinyl masks:

1562.jpg

Also the seam lines on wing outer wing lower surfaces were filled with Mr. Surfacer 500 and the excessive filler was wiped off with Q-tip moistened with Nitro thinner:

Next step is to apply first camouflage color.
