Hi Paul @Dansk I'm trying to be in every groupbuild at the same time by the looks of it 😄 I just had a trawl through Kingkit and bought this:

Would be very pleased if I could join in when it arrives?

Alan

Super Alan of course you’re more than welcome.

My we are seeing some cool retro packaging in this GB.

looking forward to see your build and hear your story 👍

Fingers crossed 🤞

Not so sure, my winning bid is only slightly less than the kit is currently available for with the decals I’d like to use on in box though it is the original boxing i had as a kit so least there’s that anyway will find out in the next 50 minutes....

I've just noticed that that serial GB participant @Rabbit Leaderdoesn't have a build listed yet !

This is absolutely shocking @Dansktime for you to play "bad cop" and persuade him to join.

Or of course we could chose for him, I'd love to see the large scale HMS Victory being built, i think it only had 100 odd cannons, a roll of thread to make the rigging and a pillow case to make the sails out of, should be a cinch  !

cheers Pat

Unfortunately his names not on the list.

pity - I’ve not seen a large scale armada Diorama yet?

Hes just playing hard to get !

Ha!!! ... the skills you learn from your Missus (even after 23 years?). Let me get my Lanc build to some point and I’ll see what I’ve got that qualifies... no promises though.
Cheers.. Dave

I've been digging around in the loft, searching for likely candidates for the GB. A couple more contenders have fought their way to the front. The F4 and Stirling builds will have priority, but I'll be fitting in what I can, when I can.

To accompany my F4 build, this rather basic Airfix Scooter needs building. The colossal F4 fighter can escort the tiny little A4 bomber!  A late boxing of a very early Airfix kit.

Then I get a chance to go wet and dry with a recent boxing of the Airfix Landing Craft and Sherman tank. Check out how the box grew over the years...

And this one might get built. I say might, as it only needs an instruction sheet and stand to make it a collector item. I do swing both ways, don't forget.

It can sit on the reserve bench for now...

There's probably going to be more appearing. If they actually get built is a whole other story.

Whichever way it all pans out, I'll be having a ball during this build, both following all the other entries and with my efforts.

You sound like you’ve built this one before, Pat...... I built the Revell version but am steering well clear of repeating that experience at the moment!

What a great GB this is shaping up to be. It's very reminiscent of the Classic Airfix GB given all the Airfix entries. 😁

I was thinking the same thing.

My early builds were pretty much Airfix exclusive though, so it has to be that way I guess.

I do remember making the Revell Hien, Oscar and Hayate, complete with box tops cut out and displayed behind them. I don't have any of those to build here unfortunately.

I'm in the same boat, although I do remember doing quite a few Revell and Matchbox kits too. The Revell collectors series were great with more than one option for finishes.

As a small child in primary school, Father Christmas used to visit us every year and give presents.  When we were in the final year, the headmaster accepted that we were old enough to know that there was no Father Christmas * and we could choose our own presents.  One of the categories to choose was "Airfix".

That final year in primary school, I chose Airfix.  Sure enough, Father Christmas **  gave me a wrapped Airfix box.  It was the Messerschmitt Bf110.  I was vaguely disappointed - happy to get a kit, but disappointed that it wasn't more of a challenge.

My mate Keith got the Grumman Duck - in the exact same boxing that you have.  He was also vaguely disappointed at getting something as old and slow as a biplane. He was quite envious of my Bf110 whoich looks really fast and spectacular on the box art.

So we swapped!  I think I got the better end of the deal.  :)

*  He was of course wrong.  If there is no Father Christmas, why do I still get presents every year????  :santa:

**  If there is no Father Christmas, how could he have given me my present in person????  :santa:

That's very kind of you Pat.

Hold fire for the moment, this kit came out a stash of builders along with the other two. That should mean I have a complete one in another box. I'll locate that box and check what's there and come back to you if needed. With luck I'll have another copy and I can then get on with building this one. Win/win, whichever way it pans out 😁

I don't have any of the old models I built as a kid, they all got tossed away by my parents when I moved out.

But I still have one model my brother built in the mid-eighties. He's much more creative than me, he made some kind of post-apocalypse car out of a 1/72 tank hull, 1/35 kubelwagen tilt, and a bunch of 1/35 bits. I like how he made the checked flannel blanket as a seat cover.

The only other old relics I have come from a big box of old built kits that my neighbour gave me, he had been carting them around since the early eighties from his childhood in Malaysia. I threw out most of the broken models but had to keep these figures he built. Best part about them was that he named them, I still smile, thinking about a kid having so much fun with their toys. I didn't ask him about the torso he was converting.

The closer we get to the starting line, the more stuff I keep digging up. That's a good thing... I think?

This dodgy looking soup is a container of bleach that's busy hopefully removing the paint on a number of potential builds. There's a WW1 tank, a Bloodhound set, a Hudson, and one I really want to build, an Airfix 1.72 Lightning F1. The models arrived here with various job lots, donations, and part finished projects. There's a few more waiting in the wings, but this lot will do for starters. One the bleach has done its stuff I can break the models down to component parts and start all over again. In theory at least.  Sometimes the paint won't come off or there's too much glue to deal with. It's worth a try though.

IMG-1284.jpg

Here's the lightning parts before their bath. There's a stripped down kit plus a few spares there. When I broke up the built model I found the nose weight was a balled up tube of glue, wrapped in an early complaint slip. Going by the kits not on the list, I can date the original build to around 1963 or '64, making it a very early one as the kit came out in '63. The transfer sheets are from my stash. One sheet looks shot, the other might work. Let's hope so.

IMG-1281.jpg

Here's an original. I love the Charles Oats artwork, he had a very quiet style that I like a lot. He also did the Hudson, Boston and B24 amongst others.

There was also a header bag lightning before this one, I'll be adding a bit of kit history to the build when it kicks off.

IMG-1286.jpg

And to finish, I also dug out my box of T3 Series 2 kits and there is another Duck in there! That means one's a builder. I like the sound of that!

Thanks for your offer of the missing instructions and stand Pat, I won't be needing them now.

The box of delights also contained the 1975 Airfix Calender that by chance had the Duck inside. A good excuse for another picture then!

IMG-1285.jpg

This afternoon I'll be setting up the bench with the Stirling, all ready for the start of the Group Build.

On your marks....
