Harvard II - Airfix 1/72

Thanks Ben :)

With Paul and Dave's guidance (thanks chaps) I've re-positioned the side panels so that the bit protruding 'fits' in the canopy gap like this:

47525252891_42bf562488_z.jpg

I had to trim the locating pins off AND cut down the edges but then the side panels fitted:

I'm having trouble with my CA again - it's not gripping the resin to the plastic.

It may be Bill's explanation that I'm messing about too much and the CA won't stick to itself if there's some dried on the surface. Whatever, it's a pain :(

After more fettling the floor now fits and the rear i/p seems to be in the right position:

33651519798_db34024745_z.jpg

I've also cut out the front of the cockpit so that the front i/p is flush with the opening and glued it in with CA, backed by some Roket powder (may as well use it up):

Sorry about the blurred photo - probably just as well.

Just need to fit the control columns and seats then I can spray stuff.

Watch out for the roll cage that goes between the two cockpits The clear part may not fit over it due to the kit clear part being a bit thick if you are going to use it. If not and going for the vac replacement then no worries... other than trimming the vac [part.

Cool resin interiors, Ced! 👏

Ciao

Thanks Giorgio :) Some detail painting needed but I've made a start (see below)

Thanks Paul - the CMR kit is on its way, fingers crossed :)

Cabin has been assembled. I needed to cut a slot in the bottom of the pilot's seat to go over the control linkage:

Interior base colours painted and wings glued together:

I'm using up some of those little pots you get with starter packs so these are Humbrol colours.

Now we just have to wait for the Norfolk Donkey post to ship the thing…

That's Suffolk Donkey Post, Ced  :nono: Regional rivalries, you know... :D

Harvard's coming along nicely mate, that Pavla cockpit looks rather nice and the vac canopy should show it off a treat (until the model gets hung from the ceiling, anyway) B)

Cheers,

Stew

Suffolk is where it's sent from, but my parcels from the big H go straight to the Norwich depot, so I suspect Ced's right, it is a Norfolk Donkey that picks them up. Mine usually get a lift with the Derby winner, occasionally though they get the old nag that needs urging every step of the way along the beach....

Thanks John - yep, most of the fiddly bits almost done so, hopefully, finished in the next few days :)

Thanks Stew and Dave :D It was the postcode that got me. Suffolk, right.

Still waiting though… I must be patient, or get used to 'they're not those Logistics expert people with Prime'.

I know I'm spoilt (but I AM worth it, I've seen the ads).

That said there's something wrong with the Big H system, methinks, that sent the emails that got me excited:

- 1/4 18:40 order confirmed

- 2/4 15:54 The following products from order xxxxxx have been despatched

- 3/4 01:00 Your order number: xxxxxx has now been packed and invoiced ready for despatch

- 3/4 21:00 parcel tracking confirmation

Tracking still says this morning that the Post Office are waiting to receive the item. Hmmm.

I guess it missed the Donkey on Monday and Tuesday?

That said, Big H are to be praised I think for supporting us modellers and maintaining their impressive stocks of 'things we might want, one day'.

Can't be cheap.

It's just their Logistics that need a bit of a boost.

One of my friends wife is known for her 'isms.

One of them is:

She: "What are Lodgey Sticks?"

He: "What do you mean, Lodgey Sticks?"

She: "Well, there are lots of lorries moving them around but I've never seen them in the shops"

Harvard? A little bit more done yesterday.

Out with the small RP Toolz punch set to punch out four little circles:

47530071581_89ed0870e9_z.jpg

Stuck together in pairs for the prop balance weights. You can just see them on the bench, to the left of the hammer.

That took about twenty minutes.

Five minutes to punch and glue the weights and fifteen minutes fondling the punch set.

Lovely.

Stuck on the prop:

What IS the camera focussed on in that shot?

Apologies, but there'll be another shot (hopefully better) later.

Thanks Bill :) Weights/waits? Nothing wrong with your sense of humour this morning! :rofl2:

The best shot I could get of the completed prop:

Yes, the AK paste did cover the yellow, just.

Some nonsense on the internals using Flat Black, Karisma silver pencil and perdu recommended watercolour pencils (thanks Bill):

Blobs of Krystal Klear drying in the instrument holes.

Ready for close up soon.

Simon man, come on

We all know that it is far and away too late for him now...

Maybe Mrs B could rustle up a job helping out somewhere for him

Something like a local aviation museum or charity...

Oh yes, we had that one didn't we

Lasted five minutes, he's obviously embraced free leisure time as a work-life compromise thing very seriously

Nurse!

Bu am concerned about you fondling your Punch Set Fnar.

I strongly suggest that you seek medical help fast sir.

Simon.

Thanks Simon :) Don't be worried matey, I've spoken to my Doctor and he says it's quite normal for a modeller of my age…

Casual pilots they are. Obviously trimmed out nicely.

No excuse not to close up BUT what if the canopy doesn't fit?

It reached Peterborough at lunchtime (well done Donkey) and they aim to deliver it tomorrow morning.

I may need some packing so I've glued the bottom (fnaar!) but left the top free.

Tailplanes added. A nice fit but droopy so they were forced upwards while drying:

'Engine' and legs prepared:

Just waiting for the CMR set now…

Out to the pub tonight so no more until the 'morrow.

Thanks Bill :)

Er, no? Perhaps I chopped too much off the bottom of the seats? I removed all of 'the block' as the instruction didn't show them. Ho hum.

As I was tidying up before 'home time' I noticed the landing lights. Can you see them?

46812242444_d9a5929a2f_z.jpg

How about now (inner bit pencilled):

47483272202_92045a3358_z.jpg

Not good enough. Out with the saw and chisel:

46620510305_9ab00d7952_z.jpg

I'm going to use the Sellotape method for the lenses so the outer 'frame' was left on.

Aha! Another chance for a fondle:

47536012671_17b8c10d7e_z.jpg

…and, after a blob of H33 and some TET, we have this:

32593654087_1430f375d5_z.jpg

On both sides, obviously. The light will get some chrome before the tape goes on.

Better.

Ah yes the seats!   I left the blocks as I could not see any other way of them to be supported. A bit of foresight. If I am not too late to mention but those little levers on the left of the seat get in the way of the sidewalls when joining fuselage halves, On mine I chopped them off! Beware!

Painted the wheels:

As good as I'm going to get with my wobbly hands.

After fitting the wheels to Wacky to far in I tested these:

Looking good. Now I just need to work out how the heck to fit these:

The undercart legs are depicted as being under weight / on the ground so the scissor link are as they are. I would cut these off if you are doing wheels up config. No Point in giving your self grief by replicating them any other way. The wheels do protrude part way from their recesses  I think, so not flush with the airframe bottom.

Anyway, if you use the doors/leg covers , you won''t need to worry as the legs won't be seen or needed!

I'l try and get on with mine tonight.

Thanks Paul :) Sadly my chosen subject doesn't have the doors so I'll see what I can bodge.

The CMR kit has arrived - hooray!

As per Keith's kind picture above there's a nice 'cabin heater' exhaust:

47489276162_445ef4a8de_z.jpg

…and a couple of canopies:

32599549067_3e14ed854d_z.jpg

They look exactly the same to me so I guess there's a spare. They fit the fuselage without spacing so that was glued up:

46626685295_de122469f6_z.jpg

The canopy was carefully cut out and sanded:

47543024841_e1ecee15df_n.jpg 33666369488_fd137f87f9_n.jpg

Any ideas how to cut this so that it fits please?

Meanwhile I've drilled out this intake:

40577169523_db19b01291_z.jpg

I'd better do the other one to eh?
