Triumph TR4A, Airfix, 1/32

Recommended Posts

It's a good little kit, as a lot of the Airfix 1/32 series were.

But, that is simply the best model I have ever seen from the TR4 kit, well done.

Thanks all! @keefr22 the paint is “old school”... Humbrol 47 Sea Blue gloss. I had an unopened ancient tin that sprayed beautifully! I don’t know whether in Triumph terms it’s Wedgewood Blue or Powder Blue, but it looks like my reference photos. The wheels are the kit parts with the dire “wire” parts replaced with resin slot car inserts from RS Slot Racing, sprayed with Molotow chrome.

Hello Matthew,

I plan to assemble the Airfix Triumph TR4a model and your realization is the most successful that I have had the opportunity to see.
I would like to give him the benefit of the wire wheels as you did.
I used your link:

to place my order but the seller Colin asks me the size of the tires to buy from him and I do not know the answer allowing me to have a result as good as you.
Can you give me this information?
Thanks in advance.

Best regards

Lovely model Matthew!  Certainly looks good and those wire wheel inserts set it off a treat. Shows just what can be done with those older Airfix car kits and some modern modelling materials like the Molotow Chrome.

Some of the Airfix original car kits were better than others and the TR4 to my mind is in the better group.

The TR4 is one of the nicest looking sports cars that Triumph ever made. It would be really nice if one were to be kitted in1/24th scale.

Thank you @Eric53 you want the 15” three ear spinner inserts RS1512 if he has them, RS1507 2-ear if not…

best regards,

Matt
