Dragon 1/35 King Tiger Late Production

After finishing my U-Boat earlier this week, I decided to build another German monster. This one belongs on the land though. The build has been pretty straightforward so far although there has been a few misnumbered parts and the instructions are vague in areas. The most difficult part of the build has just been finding the correct piece on the sprues. There’s so many parts that look similar that are on different sprues it’s making me a little cross eyed :drunk:

So far my first Dragon kit is going fairly well and pointers on any foibles the kit may throw at me will be greatly appreciated.

Assembly of the turret is complete and the rear plate is also complete apart from the jack which will be added after painting. I’ve added the necessary pieces to the inside of the upper hull and then joined the lower and upper hulls together. Usually I’d prefer to leave them apart until later to make fitting the tracks easier, but with the way the lower hull is designed it makes no difference here.

Most of the bits and pieces are on now and the base coat of Dunkelgelb has been applied. I discovered that I hate photo-etch when I attempted to assemble one of the tool clamps . All you guys who have mastered the art have my utmost respect :worthy:.

  • 1 month later...

The nice weather recently meant that work on the KT took a break. With it being back to normal today (raining :( ), I’ve managed to complete one track run and get started on the other. These took all afternoon so that my sanity and vision remained intact.

Fitted the track fenders last night and applied 3 coats of thinned Revell Aqua Olivgrün. It needs another coat and then I’ll move onto the brown and then detail painting :D.

@Mozzy19 Hi Sean, your King Tiger looks great! Is the camo brush painted? It looks fantastic!

Have a nice day

Nick

Thanks. Yes, the green and brown are brush painted. The tracks and the dunkelgelb base were both painted using Tamiya rattle cans.

Never did a KT yet. Impressive vehicle. Your brown looks proper. It is just that we saw lots of ral 8012 lately. So 8017 seems out of place. But you are doing fine.

Calling this done now. I gave up with the cables because I just couldn’t get them to work. The instructions really really didn’t help with them either. I may build up the jack tomorrow, but I may leave it off as well and say another crew has it and the cables temporarily...

What color is the brown? I like this shade much better than the normal red brown I use.

This is more of a chocolate color and looks really good.

The KT looks great, one can never have enough King Tigers.

Thanks Lloyd. The brown is Revell Aqua 84 Leatherbrown.
