Good going, can't believe that you're putting paint on already though.

Good idea for the spinner masking.

Stuart

Thanks Stuart :) I'm enjoying this, a lot! One good thing about the kit is that I can pick bits to do depending on my mood!

Happy anniversary Ced, now get on with the modelling.

Urm the fishing rigs...you're converting P38 spinners into carp floats right...gonna use some aftermarket resin from Hannants for bait...?

:rofl2: Thanks Tomo

Benedict,, that is solid gold...!!

I'm going to get a T-shirt printed with that on.

These kits can produce great results, and you're on the case here, Ced.

Thanks Rob :)

And no decals on, yet?! 😂

Good work, Ced! The spinners looks tasty 👍

Cheers! 🙂

Thanks Nikolay - some decals on, see below :)

Yet another trick from Ced's hat - those bait things are ace!

Great job on painting (and preshading 😉 ) the spinners

Ciao

Thanks Giorgio :)

Last night I glued the tanks together:

i also micro-meshed the overspray off the spinners and applied some AK True Metal 'dark aluminium':

32542698287_0a2dacbc65_z.jpg

I love this stuff, and there'll be lots more on this build! Including some gunmetal and dark aluminium on the nose:

47431802472_7f017f2613_z.jpg

Trying to insert the spigots in the spinners showed some nasty flash on both parts:

33608121778_5d70246961_z.jpg

… but once removed they fitted beautifully:

46761280764_12e87ea3db_z.jpg

so the props were assembled:

40518660433_b19309b035_z.jpg

We're all looking forward to seeing what the prop tip decals look like eh? Well, they're fiddly to apply as when you move one it knocks the other but after some time they were on:

40518982753_5e81b3905e_z.jpg

Trouble is, as expected, the carrier sticks out AND they leave a gap between the decals:

40519001973_e64ca16635_z.jpg

I gave up then and used the Liquidex pen for the other five tips:

40519030513_df5efc6a9d_z.jpg

I've also assembled the cockpit and painted the back of the cockpit (missed it):

40519094993_9bc46295ae_z.jpg

40519096633_1b885dd6d3_z.jpg

Pilot recruited and installed:

47432316882_58e180a7d1_z.jpg

There's no room for the pilot's legs so I used one of my legless molding failures. With that done there was no reason not to glue the halves together:

46761850984_23a655956d_z.jpg

The fit is really good but there's a tiny bit of gapping, hence the pegs.

I'll let that dry for a bit over lunch.

Watched an interesting video on the P-38 too. Great stuff.

PreCeding* is now a bona fide modelling technique:

'PreCeding: where a modeller announces a new build and his compatriots log on to the thread in anticipation of much good humour and tool revelations'

Bravo Mr. B. Lovely work on this bitail! :clap2:

*not to be confused with 'preceding', which is so last week....

Well, this kit is going together light lightning. See what I did there? Oh suit yourselves… :D

You not far wrong there mate.

4 months on one build .

4 days on the next one.

Looking great Ced, ,

Simon.

Thanks Simon - easy assembly see :)

Mostly.

The radiator covers are supposed to be a snug fit in here:

33611708428_48a4476901_z.jpg

…but even with much dry fitting I still got this:

40522330083_f6fc388e85_z.jpg

It looks as though there's some extra plastic on the inside of the covers:

46764985094_fdc58e0fa1_z.jpg

…which I'll be more careful to remove on the others.

I've messed around with the charger/exhausts:

33611828188_98ac8c645a_z.jpg

I'll put those on at the end. That said I'm running out of bits to stick:

46764974034_300deddfa3_z.jpg

Remind me to paint some anti-glare on the inside of the nacelles now they're together.

Looking goo so far!

Just a heads up if it matters --  the kit has the gun camera mounted on both pylons, while it should only be on the left hand one:

2v2JNDo9qxfzdhW.jpg2v2JNDoeWxfzdhW.jpg

and, it is also missing the landing light on the left wing...

36 year anniversary? Oh how that poor lady has suffered! 😋

Oi! Cheeky :D

Thanks to Keith's reminder I masked and sprayed the anti-glare on the nacelles:

Note that I remembered the bit on the canopy. Unlike this bit:

Rats. Not to worry, I'll squirt some clear stuff in there at the end.

Oops, I missed your anniversary. So, er, Happy Anniversary!   :)

Me and Mrs. Bird are at 44 years, plus 4 years of high school malarkey. I knew she was a keeper when she gave me (maybe for my 15th birthday?) the Revell 1:32 F4U-1 Corsair with Ira Kepford's markings. I think the kit was a "new tool" right around that time. In true "Cedtastic" joy, I hung it from my ceiling. However, one day it did not survive an unexpected loss of altitude.    :(

Cheers,

Bill

Sprues? No, they're part trees as you've told us before. I just need to remember and break the habit…

Admirable punning too, but let's try to avoid sausages again eh?

Thanks Bill :) 44 years? Early kit presents, obviously a match well made. Great stuff.

It's a risk any scale model would take, to soar among the light fixtures and textured ceilings - Cedtastic indeed.

If it were up to me Ben I'd keep sausages out of the thread but hey, it's a democracy, so do your Wurst 🧥

A few happy minutes were spent yesterday brushing Dark-Aluminium and Aluminium paste over the model:

32556079177_3da3bd2324_z.jpg

As per Ed's suggestion I sanded the erroneous camera off one of the pylons and gave them a brushing too:

46774549114_94bd02e360_z.jpg

Some rare masking mojo allowed me to do this:

47498412371_d200aa103d_z.jpg

I've just brushed some paste onto that too.

A few minutes glueing bits on and she'll be ready for transfers I reckon.

Yep, we noticed

Nice Lightning, did you know it was about to become "Der Gabelschwanz Teufel" when you opened the box?

Just asking?

😉

Seriously looks very nice already, I bought the aluminium and steel pastes to try out when I do my EE Lightning

Looks very exciting doesn't it

Hot cross buns anyone?

Simon.

I've got those, been riding my push bike too far again.

When is a construction model, not a construction model? or are we being ConCeded?

Never considered quickies, might change my mind if I can reduce the stash!

Happy with the canopy:

So on with the transfers. I don't think the 'devil' is going to settle on the nose, even with a splash of Daco Strong:

46776026924_6d8152f4ef_z.jpg

I may have to leave it off. I'm also worried about these:

40533717543_e7dff229d5_z.jpg

Bottom of the fin - how can they be the same on both sides? :hmmm:

Top, bottom and one side done:
