Hello everybody... I haven't been idle i did spray the base-coats on the M48. i have photo's however cannot post them at the moment as i have been having issue's with connecting to the forum since Tuesday. Mike and i have been going round and round trying to figure this out since yesterday. so until i can sort those issue's my build is temporarily suspended. as is my Heinkel build in "the specialist group build, and my M3 lee build in the "trainers" build. i can access the forum from other locations so will still be following all of the other builds.

Hello everyone... Heres a quick update, since I'm away from home and can access the forum. I have decided to post a quick photo update. First 5 will be final stage of construction before paint.

You will note that all the stowage is placed. I also added a tarp/cover for the spotlight made out of foil. Heres the tank after the first base coat of paint.

Wow you sure have some gear round this Tank, will be sitting low on the ground, the figure you have has a different head to my kit figure, and he kind of looks like he's sitting on a potty,Well I guess at War you don't always have time to find a tree. It's looking great sofar.Cheers.

I never thought about the way the figures looked. I know they look a bit awkward, but they fit the positions i have on the tank. To me that's all that matters. Eventually the whole thing will go into a small vignette of a hull down tank defilade position at a firebase. Sadly figures are not my strength so I'm doing my best.

So not much as of right now, but i did glue the hulls together and finalized the seam on the nose of the hull. Just found out that star decals make the markings for “Death” so I'm off to see if A) they're still available. And B)if i can scrape said money up for them(not likely).

Sorry for the lack of progress on this everyone. Bit of life getting in the way in the form of Dr’s Appointments. I should be able to get some painting done on Saturday. I will spray the yellow areas for the sun fade green. I found the technique up in the armor area, on another M48 build and i liked the effect. Hello @J.P. i hope you dont mind me linking to your build. I wanted to demonstrate the painting method you used.

I will spray that and let it set. Maybe Monday for the greens.

Hi Dennis, no I don't mind at all. I'm glad my build is a source of inspiration. Your M48 is really looking good, looking forward to more progress. Hope the "Dr's appointments" aren't anything serious.

Thanks its only my 3rd tank in 18 yrs. i did a large number in the later 90’s but went back to aircraft mainly in 2001. Took 10 years off from 04-14. And have only built 3 since 14. The Dr. Appt. are mainly monthly maintenance visits, thank you for asking.

Hello everyone... well i was able to get some serious painting done today. I had a 4 hour session and completely painted my Heinkel for the Specialists group build. I also knocked out the yellow paneling on this.

It kinda looks radioactive and from a video game right now but this should help the green look good and faded when i spray it. Questions, comments, & jokes please.

Thanks Stix.. Ive seen it done only once before here, and I've seen it a couple of times on video. Once in a separate build video on youtube, different from the one i linked to. I also saw this on Vallejo’s painting suggestions for changing tones on youtube. Its been awhile and something I've been wanting to try. However i don't build a lot of armor. If the technique works like it should, i will use it on other builds like aircraft. If it doesn't 🤷🏻‍♂️ lesson learned. The trick being to lightly build up layers of the green over the black/yellow. This should create a definite faded look over the yellow. Wish me luck as I'm going to spray it later today.

Oh nice , I can't wait to see how this turns out Dennis, I've done something  similar on other builds, I really hope it goes to plan, thin  the paint well and it'll be a good job I'm sure, the best of luck🤞👍

Hello everybody... @PlaStix, @Hewy, & @J.P.. I was able to get a 2 hour session in and paint a couple of different things. I know a few of you are curious so i will just post the photo’s of the grand experiment. For a sample the M3 Lee is the same paint color but straight onto plastic with no primer or undercoat.

Top job  dennis, it does add loads of  convincing depth, a wash and oils and you'll be first to finish, it isn't a race you know😜

Dont know if I’ll be the first, Im just starting to paint the stowage and bags. I added the dust cover to the Mantlet and that will have to set/Dry then be painted. I figure a week to pick out the stowage in color. Then i can gloss for decals, satin coat, & weathering. I have the wheels and return rollers painted green.

Right now I'm stuck there, I'm out of black until i can get to the hobby shop. I haven't even begun the tracks yet, they wont take long as I'm using the rubber bands from the kit. However they're molded in silver? So will need some serious work to get to look somewhat acceptable. If i have to guess 3-4 weeks of work. Though to be honest this is probably the most effort I've put into a tank since the 90’s. I was on a serious Sherman kick then and a couple of those I'm still very proud of.
