The white-tailed Mk.XVII has caught my eye more than once already but the French Aeronavale and also final option for the early XV both appeal to me for some reason. Looks like I need more Seafire kits in the stash...

The White tailed is of 767 NAS, DLCO training unit 195 at VL, so not sure if that qualifies? Aeronaval, is 54.SEscadrille 1950 that should be ok,  The last one is of 802 on Vengeance which i was ironically looking at along with the frenchie. Do Malta based and RCAF machines qualify? Training units dont that correct?

Basic trainers are excluded but anything with a front-line or weapons capability is good. French subjects are good. RCAF if based within Europe is good. Malta is good.

Yes the 700 series squadrons are all good for this GB. I did consider a Seafire from one as my own project at the start before going with the 602 Sqn Spitfire.

  • 1 month later...

Apologies for the lack of start on these birds, I did actually start these last month but not had opportunity to upload the photos. Anywho let updates begin.

First up some sprue shots.

Started with the cockpits which are not the same! I started creating 2 cockpits for the high back XV then realised oops!  Thats the problem with common sprues and following one set of instructions.

Bits of paint applied.

Onto the wings. Being shorts run we aren't expecting a great fit and i was duly not surprised.  The wheel wells are built up via few walls which need to be sanded down to take the top wing.  Then there is the fit of the outer lower wing slotting with the top wing. A little sanding and material removal is required.

Fuselage halves painted int green. i did add some additional painting details but failed to take a pic.

Fuselage halves mated together and the griffon nose sections sanded and ready for test fitting.

Not a bad fit but will require filling an sanding

Fuselage 2 with continual attempts to mate up with tape. The resin exhaust stubs are loose but again required test fitting.

Both fuselage halves cemented drying, and wing one also at the same state.

The low back receiving its wing. Fit isnt that bad apart from a step at the fuselage join. It seems to be a molding issue whereby there is too much plastic at the trailing edge and needs sanding to ting it out. I learnt this for the highback.

Shot of the rads,  made up of a few pieces and will later need sanding down to fit the underside.

Fitted. a bit of sanding and filling required at the rear.

High back having its lover wing fitted first.

A much better fit all round especially knowing to sand a bit off.

Some progress on the two 'fires

After the main assembly both were given a coat of primer and then their main colours airbrushed. Ive used Vallejo MA paints.

Yellow sections masked and airbrushed.

Decals applied, very thin and will need patience.

UC fitted in place. There seems to be a little issue with the starboard oleo fitting in its hole so its was drilled a little more for it to sit into.  Also had to open up the wheel well for the oleo to fit.

Aircraft ready for weathering with these products. Flory washes for the main dirtness  and the enamel waches for the added colour and variety especially the underside oil and dirt staining.
