This is fascinating, please keep it going.

Glad you're enjoying it. I  must admit I'm having fun doing it.

A lot of fettling but very few episodes of bad language 🙂

I was wandering which is easier enabling an old time kit to fit or simply making it yourself.

In my experience, building from scratch is much easier than trying to adapt an old kit.

Terrific work Kev ... even if there are no guns or torpedoes.

BTW, you mentioned earlier that "I did post the work on the lifeboat/punt but it seems to have disappeared."

I remember that build & found it here - https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234971278-mgb658-scratch-built/&page=34&tab=comments#comment-3225417  in your MGB 658 thread.

Thanks for that, just as well one of us has a brain. The plus is it had Guns but no torpedoes. Do I get a point for that?

  • 2 weeks later...

Back at the bench after a fantastic long weekend with Dads inc. the IPMS show at Cosford.

Time for some home improvements, namely the roof. I wanted to portray a slate roof where they have used small low grade slates e.g.

17445438-france-old-slate-roof-in-trebeurden-in-bretagne

Definitely hair shirt time. To give texture to the slates each tile is made from two thicknesses of 0.1mm card, the top one cut 0.5mm shorter. The edge had a rotary grinder bounced along the edge before cutting (hacking) the corners off. The slates being 2 x 4mm overall.

Then individual slates were painted with multiple shades

that looks like a lot of delicate work

I'e just had a rough count . . . .

720 slates at 3 cuts per slate = 2160 scalpel cuts :banghead: Glad I didn't work it out before

Tooo late, been there, done that. I think before your time

I had great fun but I'm still trying to get the oil/grease off my hands. Noisy, smelly things. Give me an open sea any time

You have such a marvellous eye for shape, colour and texture Kev. This is utterly beguiling work.

He's making a diorama, not selecting the material for one of your pantomime frocks Tony! I do agree about the quality of the work though.

Your patience for this small stuff amazes me.

It keeps me out of the pub, though it doesn't help my eyesight :hypnotised:

Except when one is freezing cold, soaking wet and 'feeding the fish'.

Gidday Longshanks, I think this is all pretty good, but I think the slate roof raises it another notch. Regards, Jeff.

Pleased with the effect.

Not so pleased with the belt I got, not once but twice Doooh!  I still can't believe the jolt I got from two AA batteries.

Next new discipline rust  . . . .

Are you going to put any "moss" on that roof?

Probably. Thought the rust might help with armour lol
