My Finnish “Mersu !”

Hello everybody... I haven't done a WIP here for awhile. Most of my builds over the last several months have either been built offline, or down in the Group build section. Im starting this to use the 109 as a fill-in. While im waiting for my Patton tank to dry or set down in that group build. I received this AZ 109 from @vppelt68 as a gift, so im also keeping a promise to him to do a WIP. The kit looks a lot like what i imagine an eduard Bf-109 to be, if they did one in 1/72. Here i believe is where he got the kit from. 

 

That is a good representation of the sprues. I even got one set of belts & decals from him. The decals are for Finnish Bf-109G MT-505.

 

 

Im actually rather excited by this as I am part Finnish and this will be my very first Finnish aircraft. Most likely not my last. Questions, comments, or jokes if you please ? Progress may be a bit slow at first until i see how the Patton group build is getting along.

You´re welcome Dennis, and have fun with the kit, though an Eduard kit is not! For the prototype, MT-505 is not a bad one. It was delivered in the very last days of the Continuation war, and assigned to its squadron on 31 August 1944 - exactly 24 years earlier than I was born 🙂. It was a high-tail, Erla-canopy G-6 with the droptank, "Turkin sota"- called military exercise specific paintjob, sand filter and the Morane- whip antenna below port wing. There´s a pic of her in the last pages of SIH 6b, which shows the stripy paintjob and the antenna. Now I need some . V-P

 

EDIT: I read a comment in a MT-505 build at Finnish Pienoismallit- forum, that she would have had her lower surfaces painted 1948 in Light Grey. I couldn´t confirm the source by now, but don´t doubt the guy who commented it. So go for grey.

      Hello everyone... So i started with early assembly today. This was cockpit, exhaust stubs, and i pre painted a lot of stuff on the trees. I like the kit its very detailed for this scale. It even includes a seperate flap wheel, that needs to be built and added to the sidewall. 

Here is where the 109 was as of 17:00. 

 

This evening i went at the painting, this is where i wound up just a little while ago. 

 

 

I will finish up the cockpit tomorrow, and start to button up the fuselage. Questions, comments, or jokes if you desire.

Good new, rumours is that Eduard are releasing a Bf109g6 or g10 late this year or early next.

Hello everyone.. Not much for today. I finished up the cockpit by adding the belts. So its all there minus control stick & gunsight. 

I then closed up the fuselage so it can move onto sanding and filling. 

Here it is with my other build, a Dragon He-219 A0. I thought id do a size comparison of Day fighter next to night fighter. 

This is my entry into the Specialist group build. Questions, comments, or jokes if you please ?

Three kits in one box? I like that. It's nice to see someone building something a little different too.

I also like the idea of a 219/109 Mistel but I don't think the 219 landing gear would take the strain 😁.

Oh, and that wheel is for the elevator trim.

Oh, it's actually two wheels; one for elevator trim and the other for radiator flaps. Can't remember which one is which, though 😊. V-P

I think it was editor of the Suomen ilmailuhistoriallinen lehti-magazine, who found that information. As German colours and pigments were run out the light blue was not any more available. This change happened when war-camouflage (black-green uppersurfaces) was still valid.

Hello Pete... No just a single 109. I just used the boxtop as it came from a 3 pack. I like the idea of the 109/219 mistel. 🧐 Sadly im not doing that. I just photographed them a size comparison. Now though i may build one in the future. But i wonder just how much explosive could you stuff into the Heinkel ? Its pretty thin for a fuselage. I knew that about the Elevator wheel just got stupid for a minute.

Light Gull Grey FS16440 equivalent by Your Preferred paint manufacturer is good enough, though this is a result of a non-academic research.

...but it'll look damn good with light grey belly and a light blue (RLM 76) drop tank!

Konnichiwa Everyone... I cant tell you how much im liking this little “Gustav”. Almost no seams very impressive. My biggest regret is not sepetating control surfaces. Maybe on the next one, as im sure i will be adding more of these to my meager stash. Im guessing what seams there are, is more likely due to my clumsy fingers building it. Most of the structure is completed minus tail stabilizer’s. Those will get added after sanding the main fuselage and wings. Heres where she sits tonight. 

 

 

Here she sits in formation with my Uhu. 

The Uhu’s ready for final sanding/polishing. When i get the “Mersu” up to that stage i can work on them together. That way i can do a whole lot of painting together. Questions, comments, and jokes if you want.

Oh its going to slow down soon, patton build starts saturday and most of my time will be devoted to that. Im trying to get as much done before then as i can.

I have been more interested in our 109:s in their war era appearance. Now, partly thanks to you, I'm about to start 1946 G-2 and 1948 sharkmouth G-6 builds .

Lovely little build, well done so far. There is a lot of Details in this tiny cockpit.

The photos give an idea about the size of a 109 and the rather large He 219.

I have the same kit in a JG 53 boxing maybe something between larger builds the paint Job will be surely a challenge.

Well the sanding & polishing is done for about 90% of the 109. I will add the stabs and finish that up. I can then rescribe and push on to the painting stage.

Such a boring and tedious task 😕 That's why I don't fill my models unless the seam is really noticeable.

Hallo zusammen (⬅️gees i hope that’s correct). Well i finally got around to finishing the horizontal stabs and dipped the canopy. I can mask and glue the canopy soon and were onto the painting. Both this and the UHU, will be painted together.

Well for a bit there i had to work on other things. And for a few days i was knocked off the forum, actually i still am. I just found a way around the block. I was able to mount the canopy and mask it today. They're home made masks not pre-made, so they aren't the best. 

 

 

Later this week i can start painting all the models i have going. This, the Heinkel 219, & the M48 Patton tank im doing for my group build. Questions, comments, and or jokes please.
