Christer A
Instead of looking longingly to that Black Widow (Both the P-61 and Scarlet Johanson) let's finish the cockpit. Where was I? That's right, dashboards, joysticks and noseweights were installed. Strange, there's a lot left on the PE fret. What to do about those tiny tiny levers? I could drizzle CA glue all over the cockpit, and hope that some of the levers end up in the right position, and doesn't go flying if I sneeze once or try to lay down a clearcoat, or I can do something else. Since laziness is a virtue I chose the second option: Gosh! That was a big bunch of tires to paint! After checking if there was anything else that was supposed to go into the fuselage that couldn't come later (Like the bang seats. I', hoping hard that they can be installed later, since that's their entire point!) I just glued it together, hoping for the best. It seems that not all can be glued at the same time, so on purpose I let the nose open like this. Hey, does anyone see where those levers were supposed to go? No? Ok then 😎 I did however forget to install the Hatthylla as we say in Swedish (what is the shelf behind the rear seat in all cars called in English?) After some brute force, splitting of fuselage seams, and general mayhem I got it in place. Fortunately I was able to get it out every time it dropped into the fuselage... Too bad that it was painted and weathered. 😶 Gotcha! Then the nose underside had hardened enough so that I could glue the upper seam together without affecting the lower part. Have at you! Time to ponder on how to do all external Wild Weasel mods!
trickyrich
nicely done. I have to agree with you on the levers, many a model I've left them out, either because they're not seen or they're just too much bother........and in the end no one notices all the work anyway!

The levers really only work in the bigger scale of 1/32 or 1/24. Anything smaller and they tend to become a bit of a nightmare. 9 hours ago, Christer A said: (what is the shelf behind the rear seat in all cars called in English?) We call it a Shelf ? 🤨😉 sorry had to say that. Dennis Edited April 30, 2019 by Corsairfoxfouruncle

Great work with the F-100F, how's it been coming along since the new AM arrivals?

Great work with the F-100F, how's it been coming along since the new AM arrivals? Parcel Shelf? Makes as much sense as a hat shelf... I've got the GWH P-61A in the stash, so I could start it any second, unless I get distracted by something else, like a Whirlwind. But I shot some primer yesterday on other subjects For the Hun though, it looks more like this now. I probably could've masked better before filling, but where's the fun in that? The intake will give me a few problems I'm sure... We'll see how it looks once the sanding session is done.
trickyrich
those gaps don't look that nice, if the intake turns out to be too much trouble then just make up an Intake cover. That's what I do for problem intakes.
Christer A
The gaps on the outside were not that hard to cope with, but I haven't tackled the intake yet. With some water the PPP will sand easily though...
Christer A
Sorry for the lack of updates recently, but I'm in the process of sanding the seams on the intake and it's slow going. PPP sands away very quick when using a bit of water, but its almost impossible to get a good smooth finish afterwards. Testing with Tamiya Putty instead. It's harder and shrinks a bit more, so it takes a few more layers until it looks right. No, intake cover is not an option! 😎
trickyrich
mmm the Tamiya stuff is great, but boy it shrinks! You have to do it in thin layers and really leave it to cure. It's sort of why I try to use stretched sprue or thin plastic strip to fill biggish gaps.
Christer A
After a lot of sanding I finally got this: It appears thugh that some dust has stayed further in... I wonder if I can rub it off somehow? A hairy stick or cotton bud might solve I hope. Also behold the misshappen lump that's supposed to be the nosemounted RWR 😎 The eagle-eyed also noticed something else in that picture? That's right, the wings are on. quite a lot of force was required to solve it, but after serious clamping action and both PPP and primer I though I had it under control. At least on the upper side. But the left inner flap is quite far from the fuselage. How does it look from below then? Oh dear. A 1mm gap behind the landing gear bay? Time to ponder what to do about that!
Col.
Sounds as if this one is putting up more of a struggle that it should. Impressive work on the intake so I'm sure the wings will get tamed in similar style.
Christer A
Yeah, it's a bit surprising that the wings fit as bad as they do. Trumpeter usually don't have any issues there, even though they can totally fudge up the basic shapes...

Computer keyboard duster, or compressor air should make quick work of that dust.
Christer A
The dust also put up a fight, but the hairy stick was sturdier in the end. I've tried to break off and reattach the troublesome wing, but the TETC welded that a bit too well to the fuselage so it wont come of. Oh well, it will have to do then.... Christer A
Since this GB has come to and end, I made a follow up thread in the normal WIP area. I probably need to compensate @trickyrich somehow... A P-61 later on this autumn perhaps?
trickyrich
glad to see you haven't given up on her even with the few dramas you had towards the end. Mmmm P-61!!!!
