Hello all,

Welcome to my first modelling thread! Picked up this Tamiya kit for £10 and the knife for a quid to start my descent back into modelling.

This builds into a nice replica out of the box.

The holes in the floor of the hull are left over from when this kit was first released as a motorised model, they really need to be filled but that is up to you.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with this

I actually noticed that, there is a template etched into the floor of the hull showing where the battery pack should go for the motorisation. I will get them filled in when I'm a bit further along in the build. Appreciate you coming on board! Hopefully have some progress for you soon!

It's a really nice kit, much better than the airfix starter sets I got bought for Christmas as stocking fillers. Thanks for the welcome and thanks for joining!

I remember this kit and built it years ago. it's a decent kit. If you enjoy building it you should get the Dragon kit

You can scratch build a decent interior too

Will be interesting to see what you come up with

Yours looks superb! I hope my finished product is half as good. Will be looking to add some interior finishes to some at some point. Thank you for sharing and for the inspiration!

Safe to say, progress has been more slow than steady. But at least I know all parts are cleaned up appropriately etc. Lower wheels are now on both sides.

Off out to the shops with the other half, so might end up coming home with a kit to add to the stash.

We have a turret ladies and gents. With half of a commander who I will mount in the open hatch when the rest of the model is constructed! Smaller wheels fitted to the main hull also.

Thanks Roger! Really happy with this, should get the ball rolling properly tomorrow as I have quite a chunk of free time.

A question for all you model folks out there, quite a bit of mould lines on the figures that come with this kit and I've literally got one poxy file. Any tips for cleaning bits of flash off? I need to invest in some half decent tools...

You can scrape the flash off the figures using your modelling knife with the blade held at 90 degrees to the mould lines. Hope you follow what I mean.

What Roger said. Scraping a blade along the seam lines is by far the best way of removing them on figures. A file can remove detail if you're not careful.

John.

Cheers guys, I will give that a go. Think I made a bit of a mess around the chap poking out of the hatch. Particularly around his ears. Will give that a go with the rest of the troops soon.

The tank is complete! Honestly over the moon with this and thanks to everyone who's joined in so far with my first build. Literally took me back to being a kid completing it, really happy with the look of it once complete. Tamiya did not disappoint.

Tracks have currently been left off as I've decided I'm going to attempt to paint it at some point soon (whilst lining up my next couple of projects, I see how you guys build up stash's) and will be contemplating turning the vehicle and accompanying soldiers into a diorama.

I hope you folks don't mind me popping the figures in here when constructed and not over in the figure section. I want to keep the project together.

Cheers,

Steven

Thanks Roger! The struggle I have right now is spending the funds on more kits or modelling supplies/paints etc. Will definitely get it painted up as soon as possible.

An update, long over due. No reason what's took me so long. Two of the accompanying infantry built. Started cutting off the parts for the third and an arm shot off the sprue and off my table. Can I find the army to save my life? No. But here's the two I finished. Lost of flash on these guys and were a bit of a bugger to clean.

Once the figures started to get attached to them, I really learnt to love them and really pleased with how they look. A lot more fiddly than the tank for sure. If I can find that missing arm, the other two soldiers will get popped together and the kit is complete.

Cheers everyone!
Steven

Hi @ewing9593 for a new starter I would say Hobbycraft (if you have one near you) is a great place to start. They have a number of the low cost Tamiya kits in stock and they are great models to practice and learn techniques. The Panzer II is certainly a nice easy kit but you can still get some great results:

I got back into modelling by working through the Hobbycraft stock, I would certainly recommend having a go at the Chieftan or Panzer IV

I use either Tamiya paints (thin with water) and a couple of the Revell Aqua colours as well.  Certainly use the Tamiya liquid cement it’s much easier than the tube glue. A scalpel type knife is easier to use than the click blades. Here  is a pic of my basic tools, the yellow handle cutters are great for cutting parts off the sprue

So welcome to Britmodeller and don’t be afraid to ask for help and advice i’ve really enjoyed being involved and it really adds another dimension to the hobby 🙂
