825
My second contribution, the Special Hobby Vultee Vengeance in its target tug version. The plastic parts parts are relatively simple and they're nicely moulded although the detail is soft and the level is quite muted. Everything on a single sprue. A fair bit of resin, including a cockpit pit. Two vac formed canopies provided. Nice transfer sheet. Edited March 13, 2019 by 825
Col.
Another rare and interesting subject. Are you going with the Royal Navy example?

Yes, there are two options for a Royal Navy version, a 733 NAS in the Temperate Sea Scheme based at Trincomalee, and one based at RNAS Sydenham this time in the Temperate Land Scheme. Both over Black/Yellow stripes. I think I'll go for the 733 option.

825
Some paint on. The cockpit has come up nice. I had problems getting the winch operator's seat to stay in place and had to use a piece of wire into a drilled set of holes. I now have to find a way of getting rid of the protruding bit. Otherwise it's a nice cockpit. I need to make up some seat belts as well.
825
Somè moulding flaws to be fixed A bit of plastic strip and putty makes a start on fixing the latter. The former was simply filed off. The cockpit is complete with Tamiya tape seat belts. The cowling assembled and needed some tidying up as well.

The cockpit glued in and given a coat of matt varnish to dull the paint down a little. And the fuselage closed up. I was expecting an absolute nightmare but it went together with a minimum of fuss and has lined up pretty well. Only a small amount of filler and sanding is needed. And minimal tape needed to close up. Even the section behind the cockpit cockpit where there was the uneven opening and massive moulding flaw is reasonable. Onwards and upwards.

825
Fuselage tidied up and engine and cowling attached. The latter was a really good fit. A little bit of sanding to get smooth surfaces, and once glued an almost perfect fit. Some paint along the seam to check it. The underside (which can be seen above) may need a little attention but the upper side doesn't look at all bad.
Col.
A little more attention to some seams and you'll be right with this one I'd say.

I've already sanded and polished the underside. I'm not 100% sure whether the upper seams are the different layers of plastic and filler showing through the thin paint or faint seams. I think a smear of Perfect Putty might be in order.
825
Sit rep as of today. Lot of painting down and the fuselage almost complete. The wings needed a bit of tidying up and there is still a coat of paint on the leading edges needed. Will need to mask the yellow and get the black stripes on before the wings are assembled and fixed to the fuselage. I might fabricate some spars to fix the wings on as they are intended for a butt join. The only problem is there's is a massive resin block as part of the cockpit interior in the way. As well as the cockpit interior. Some small parts cleaned up and bagged.
825
Wings almost ready to be assembled. I'll see about some way of fixing the wings to the fuselage and then finish painting the underside.
825
Masking off, and even though I say myself, not too bad a job. A bit of touching up required but overall not all bad. Serious phew moment though. Though on reflection despite my careful measuring the strips on one wing look a bit narrower than the other. I saw narrower as the wider ones look more correct.

I have fixed the stripes on the wings and painted the fuselage underside with black (Revell Aquacolour Gloss Black). A little bit of the yellow will need touched up. I've got some plastic tube and Aluminium Rod that I'll use to strengthen the wing joint and that will be the next big job.
825
I've fabricated some wing spars to ensure the wing butt join is well supported. The fuselage is pretty hefty due to the resin cockpit insert and I'm not sure a simple butt join would be strong enough. I'll give the white tube a quick coat of interior grey green before slipping e wings on. On dry fitting the wing fuselage joint is very neat. The wings have have also been assembled and look not at all bad. The fit was good and I have a nice leading edge demarcation.
825
Wings on. As usual dry fitted perfectly but once glue added needed a fair amount of fettling. Also some filling needed. But now starting to look the part.

825
Tailplane on. Brilliant fit but I added a wire peg to ensure strength as it's a butt fit. Bits and pieces of resin and etch added and faired in. Some more paint on. The tidying and cleaning up seems to be taking a bit of time. Hopefully will get masked and upper surface painting done soon. Adrian you're right the Vengeance is quite a beast. And looks pretty good in the TSS scheme Edited May 11, 2019 by 825
825
Although the tailplanes fitted well I had real challenges in making sure they stayed put. The wire pegs were superglued into a tight hole and Tamiya Extra Thin first smeared on the mating surfaces and then wicked down the joint. After leaving to dry overnight I thought they would be fine but every time I handled the aircraft the tailplanes moved out of true. They never came off just moved. After several unsuccessful attempts with TET I resorted to more superglue. And it took two attempts for one of them. Then some cleaning up was necessary. Frustrating as initially the joints were excellent and seam free. I also had to smooth down and polish some of the underside colours on the lower fuselage. Anyway here we are today with a couple of coats of Dark Slate Grey on. Hopefully the first coat of Extra Dark Sea Grey a little later.

825
Painting almost done. Just some tidying up of the black stripes around the undercarriage housings and a sky band round the rear fuselage.
