Argentina Armada A4 Attack Trio

Recommended Posts

No problem, praise where it is due.

My A-4's are all 1/48 scale and I want to build them all from different air arms so there would be little commonality unfortunately.

That’s a great idea for a shelf suite...

Put this up on bargains section but I got these prawns from Argentina at Lidl and turns out the wooden box they come in is going to be great at using as a base for displaying models.

If you need any inspiration to get these display bases with free Argentinian prawns this may help.. I don’t own Lidl or work in the fishing industry either, there are other bases and foods sources out there..

MER racks arrived, these will be required to turn these A-4s into anti-shipping specialists from the Falklands. They carried 4 Mk 82 snakeyes each

Not the MERS, but have used some of the Eduard weaponry in the past.  Picked up a Kormoran set for my Marine F-104 a couple years back.  Nice stuff.  Just use patience, sharp tools, and not a lot of force cutting the bits free.  Tweezers & CA are your friends.

Thanks for that Chris, luckily I have just purchased Dspiae nippers and a Swann Morton scalpel, fresh blade will be attached for this then. It’s a shame you can’t buy patience at the model shop, as I have none. Thanks for the heads up and advise, I stand a chance of not ruining this with your guidance. I will make a start today.

oh wow, I like the AM stuff, they're going to look fantastic!!!

As Chris ( @helios16v ) mentioned, a nice really sharp blade and and some patience and you'll be amply rewarded.

Just sitting here for 2 hours looking at them. Nice detail, too scared to start them. Do i Build them then paint them. Fretting over it putting it off so much I’ve started making the Q VOR rings for the tail I wasn’t going to do

Lining up for the final attack run at these. Each one now separated into their own “hangar” and will be worked on individually moving forward. 304 and 314 are not far away, 301 will be the pride of the formation and I will take my team with Philippi’s machine.

If i work hard hopefully can get a bit of pace during the week and clear the bench of these 3 in time for the Blitz build, Sharkmouth, D-Day and Lockheed GBs and push through with my first ever 1/48 build which has taken up space and time.

Valk I've built up 4 of the eduard mers in 48th these aren't an easy build, I dread to think what your 72nd ones are like, the very best of luck, 🤓( I've  since found out  my 48th ones are actually a scale foot too short, even eduards own snakeyes don't fit them, )

Sharp instruments indeed required. Anyone have a Swann Morton blade do this on them. Perils of scale modelling, I nearly lost an eye, a nose and a portion of my cheek! Think it’s a sign to leave the MER racks on the deck about to be loaded for the mission.

On another note I had exhausted all attempts to find a Q conversion kit so here is my first attempt at VOR Radar rings. Bit thick maybe but I liked the black rubbery look. Not sure I will bother with the last 2 what do you guys think? What else could I use? They are black on the real aircraft but maybe a bit thinner.

When I cut resin parts free I'll typically use a small saw or if I use a knife I'll cut it free by scratching/scribing cuts to free it (not trying to push the blade through the resin).  It definitely takes some time using a knife, which is why I usually prefer a saw blade if I can make it work.

I'm still a hack when it comes to resin (I've only done a cockpit, couple sets of seats, and the Kormoran), but that is what has worked for me in the past.

Navalised fin just behind the canopy is homemade from thick white card. Not very refined but more accurate for the Q version than in the kit. Still not sure about my crude scratch building but from a display distance I’m quite pleased. Not sure if il add to the other 2

Is that a razor saw?  Or just a razor blade?  If that is a razor saw, than it's probably very similar to what I use.  https://www.scalemates.com/kits/cmk-h1010-handle-our-saws--541096

Ooooo I want one of those!!! They are the best for light resin work, and plastic. They're almost as this as a razor blade, CMK I think also do a version.

haha I break those scalpel blades all the time like that, both that size and the bigger #26's, I'm pretty brutal on them. Usually for trying to cut something with them I shouldn't....and occasionally I stab myself with them. Gotta keep the blood offerings up the the God of Modelling!!

Trumpeter do a really nice small saw set, the coarse blade cuts through resin blocks like butter!

...getting back to subject they are coming along really nicely, you're just about there.

This hobby is fraught with dangers, blood sacrifices to gods, carpet monsters, flying razor sharp shrapnel, stabbings, stash smuggling, stash hiding, lies...” it was only a five pounds reduced from £30..” or “No actually a guy on Britmodeller just sent it to me for free” Was the actual truth but she didn’t believe a word...

Ive not used the saw yet, helios it comes with a wooden handle and 2 blades in that box..£13 at Perth show.
