Still to mask and paint the cowling ring and we'll be ready for the transfers.

Finishing off the painting and touching up. Cowling masked and painted with Akan's dull iron. The exhaust pipes have had the ends drilled out and painted with the same paint. I'll add on a dry brush of rust at some point.

I'm away for the coming 10 days on Tuesday so it will probably be a little while before any more work is done, but still hopeful of finishing on time.

You're well on the way with this one so hopefully a final push once you get back to the workbench will see it done.

All packed and had an hour or so. So got some of the transfers on. Pavla transfers behaved really well. I've left the codes off until I have the canopy on. With it being vac formed I suspect a degree of fettling may be needed.

  • 3 weeks later...

Back from a couple of weeks in Canada for a family wedding. And too much to eat and drink, but thoroughly enjoyable.

I think I have finally managed to cut out a vac formed canpy to a reasonable degree of usefulness. Mind less successful with the landing light cover. Still needs some cleaning to remove the blu (actually a green version) tack.

Prop blades drilled out and some wire mounts added. I'd already drilled out the corresponding holes in the spinner.

And a coat of Klear on the bottom to hopefully pull everything together. I'll give a coat of matt varnish later.

That can happen at Canadian weddings. I've been to a few.

Canopy on and mainly masked. Took an age and I've still to sort out the ends and fair in. I'm not 100% sure I'll get this finished on  time as I've a few things to do today and tomorrow. But I'll try.

Finished and ready for photography. The canopy unmasked. Doesn't look bad but if I had a bit more time I would have tried

to fair it in a bit better.

The undercarriage is spidery and very fragile. If making again I would have inserted wire pins into the main legs. I've knocked one of them off three times when handling. I'm just waiting for the latest re-glueing to set so I can photograph it for the gallery.  A bit last minute I appreciate but it will be done by midnight.
