I take your point, but I know from personal experience that it is VERY difficult to organise a show that doesn't clash with anything, if you want it to occur in the spring or summer. I've read that there are around 90 model-shows in the UK every year - if that's accurate, I'm sure folks can see where the problem occurs.

The show calendar does get a bit crowded at times. Maybe regional shows organised by clusters of clubs poollng their resources might help space things out a bit as venues and table hire become more expensive, and give traders less of a dilemma about which to go to.

... and we must consider the influence of major air-shows, battle re-enactment events, sports events, museum open days and other special events....

It can be a blimmin' nightmare organising a "non-clashing" show during the summer months. Sometimes you just have to clash with other events and hope for the best.

I'm guessing that the bar-staff were less-than-friendly, then? It's a shame, but it only takes one or two poor members of staff to cause some adverse comments...

I had a quick chat with the security-fella on the big shutters first thing Sunday and he was polite, professional and friendly, so we can't tar all members of the arena-staff with the same brush.

Chris.

Yes a couple of the bar staff were less than friendly but I put that down to the age demographic more than anything. Also some lack of basic info. Wen I asked about getting some breakfast I was told to come back after 10 when they would be doing bacon rolls, only then to be told this was not the case and did I want a burger, not at 10 I did not. Though I had one later and it was very good.

This though did not detract from what I thought was an excellent show, and if it does go ahead next year I know our club will do their best to attend.  After helping trying to plan a small show, the variables are great so well done to the organisers. There did seem to be a large number of visitors and hopefully this will grow if it continues at the same venue.

Or get the Scots to choose a date that does not clash with us : )

As has been said  there are a few stages we have to go through before we do another show

1. Club AGM in May, the members have to vote to do a show, bearing in mind a number of key committee members have said they are standing down

2. COST this year the cost of doing the show was over £8000 we need to try and get a good deal from the arena. They would not give any discounts this year despite us raising money for charity

3. Football Fixtures out late June/ early July, we can not have a show when Dons at home on Saturday or Sunday

4. MOSON Is the show we want to avoid so we can get more visitors from Europe

5. Perths date

BUT the feedback we have had was so good in my view it will be hard not to do it again

MK show has moved dates a few times since the first one in I think it was 2002 or 2003... (will have to get the paperwork out").

The Scottish nationals has always had the same slot, last weekend in  April other organisers should know to avoid that weekend .

They also usually  have next year years show dates sorted out before the years show has taken place and it is already counting down on their website:    Scottish Nationals Webiste

There are a lot of shows these days, they are so relatively easy to put on these days.

But we need a mix of the larger shows and smaller local/specialist shows for variety.

Finding when shows are on on can sometimes be difficult, the IPMS website has some on, but relies on people letting them know.

Modelminiatures.com is a little more proactive and usually has more shows listed , which is useful when you are looking for a free weekend to put an event on.

In the past I have let show organisers know there is a clash with their provisional show date and have avoided a clash, I just wish more people would talk to each other to sort out these problems
