Please explain as a Hurricane guru, why you didn't correct the fabric behind the gun bay to a metal surface? Sure. Kit done OOB, no corrections or additions. If i was doing that, I'd have done the fabric, thinned the wing trailing edges, replaced the wheels (resin or make, get diameter ones and add new hubs) and spinners, and used a vac or correct canopy.(which I don't have spare) I'd also replace the control column and seat, add wingtip lights, maybe add the fuselage/wing cockpit flare and redo the cowl fasteners, and take out about 1.5mm infront of the tail fin. If I was doing KW-Z, new codes, or these rejigged. The one which some of this has been done on, is 'waiting' and would have cause kittens in the paint stage..as would worry about messing up all that work. and it wouldn't have been on the table at the club meeting last night. It has made me an awful lot happier as I'm mostly happy with the paintwork (bit thick, some brush marks) and the new to me use of oil wash and staining and chalk pastels has worked better than I hoped. So, hopefully more will be done soon, as I enjoyed this, apart from asking the canopy... 2 hours ago, Andre B said: 5625 was really an different bird. No spinner... Very common on Canadian Hurricanes. Stalker6Recon
One of the things that has absolutely changed my thinking regarding to military modeling, specifically aircraft, is the fact that most if not all kits are based on historical airframe. When I was younger, I built the kits based on whether I liked the shape more than anything, I never considered the accuracy to the real aircraft and thought that tail marking was just decoration only, a combination of fact and fiction. Now that I know that not only are the aircraft real, ie, numbers, paint guide, units, but also the names of the pilots that fly them. This has changed my thinking as regards to building, they are not just cool looking airplanes, but historically snapshots, so I plan to build them with a bit more care and attention to detail. You have/had photos of the actual bird you are building, and I hope that can photos of mine, I am certain that it will keep me motivated through the build, and keep my head clear regarding doing honor to those who fly them. Your bird looks really nice, hand painted no doubt, I would not have thought that possible without leaving a mess of brush strokes and hairs all over the place. That takes a lot of talent to paint via brush and leave no sign of it, at least I think it does. Beautiful bird and extremely cool photos, that one of all the chaps hanging around the aircraft should be printed, framed and set as the backdrop to the finished kit. Cheers, Anthony
Windz
This thread is exactly what I’m looking for, thanks for the link. Getting pretty excited to start the build with the kids on Tuesday. The wings and undercarriage spar are just the sort of “hints & tips” I need to. Most of the kids have never built a model before, so if we can get them looking as good as we can we may have some new blood for the hobby 😉

Just as confidence builder and to get to the painting stage. The Airfix Hurricane maybe a bit fiddly, like the wheel well, though if built wheels up then you could skip that part. Older kits can often be more forgiving. Another range to look for, which were cheap in the UK, and maybe still are in Canada, are the Pegasus Hobbies 1/48th kits, they tend to be based on someone else model, but they do a range of 1/48th fighters, Spitfire, Hurricane, Bf109, Fw190 Me262, Mustang, Zero. eg https://www.hyperscale.com/2009/reviews/kits/pegasus8411reviewbg_1.htm Snap together, (but can be glued,) and have decals and stickers, but are reasonable kits, the Hurricane is based on the Hasegawa kit, and 1/48th are quite impressive size when done. I did a few Zvezda snap together kits of character from the Cars and Planes films with my daughter when younger, about 4 or 5, they are really impressive for fit and engineering, and good for younger children. Multi colour plastic and stickers, but easy to make into a decent looking model. Apologies if stating the obvious, recall it took a few goes as child to get to be able to do kits, i think i was about 8 when I got the knack, anyway, maybe you could do a post to show how it goes. If I lived "just down the road" I might have volunteered to help - but there's a bit of water in between and in any case you don't need us old crusties dragging things down. Sounds like a mega blitz build. Good luck and please keep us posted on progress (or not). 😄 cheers Rob

Hope you take the opportunity to share the story of Canadian Car & Foundry, Elsie McGill, and the Hurricane as an unsung performer during the BoB. Models come alive with the story behind them. I enjoyed Candianizing mine based on a real plane that was crowdfunded (war bonds) by kids during WWII and belly-landed at a training base. Background story and WIP thread dealing with my own learning curve is below:
