mbdesignart
Back to the interior... The seats in this version differ greatly from those used in the original, Hannu gets a proper racing bucket [no handle😆] whereas Gunnar has what looks like a Ford Recaro from an Mk2 RS2000, the net head rest type, but the net looks to have been replaced with bungee cord. I found some look alikes from a manufacturer and have sculpted the navigator's seat to something like the Ford version. Info from Greg [RS2man] indicates these seats may be a tad undersize but they'll do. I'm going to attempt to replicate the bungee cord with stretched sprue. Here is the before and after of the seat, headrest still to finish. .
mbdesignart
Having looked at the seat photo again, the navigator's shape is correct so I've added the headrest with the wonky webbing. Â
mbdesignart
Well I still have all my fingers, no thanks to the Dremel. In preparation for making the seatbelts I wondered how the navigator's were arranged. On closer inspection of a photo there is a cutout in the seat squab so out came the drills. When enlarging the pilot hole the drill bit took hold and spun the seat out of my grip, snapped it in two when it hit the wooden block I was using to protect the worktop and left the base spinning wildly on the drill bit. So a bit of working the cutout by hand tools salvaged the job and with a bit of glue and filler it should be back in one piece soon. Maybe I need some of those chain mail gloves butchers wear? Brandy
I remember seeing something similar, but far funnier, many years ago when I was working as a labourer on a building site. One of the guys was using a pneumatic drill to drill a hole through a concrete floor to fit piping. It kept jamming against the reinforcing bars in the concrete and after a while there were many shallow holes drilled but nothing deep enough. The foreman (a man in his 60's and not quite as agile as he possibly had been in his youth) came along and grabbed the drill, stating he would show the (insert expletive) how to do it. It jammed, he couldn't let go, and we all peed ourselves laughing as he bounced around in circles, led by the drill, screaming at us to "stop laughing, it isn't funny"!  Ian 2
mbdesignart
Well the parts gremlins have hidden another item, namely the etch seatbelt fret for the Escort. I'm sure it was still in the box and so I ordered some red ribbon as this car has red Sabelt belts. Come time to attack it and look no etch fret so I ordered a couple of Eduard sets from Hannants. I should have looked closer as these are 4 point not the 6 point I need, good job I can use some extra bits from the Eduard sets. Is it old age? [no need to answer that last one😀]

mbdesignart
Thanks to Nick for the etch fret, the seatbelts are done bar adding the Sabelt logos, however this build isn't going to be at Telford this year.

mbdesignart
At last 5 minutes spare to do a bit more. Navigator's gizmo mounted on the door under the quarterlight from some scrap plasticard and stretched sprue. Â Â
mbdesignart
If anyone is interested in a view of the other end of the dash here you go. I uesd some of the redundant kit instrument decals for the 3 in the navigator's binnacle. The switch banks to the centre will need making from scrap plasticard. Hewy
That really is a deep dish steering wheel, i know how little room those mk1s had inside, and that wheel must have took most of it up, i like what you're doing mark, very nice work

mbdesignart
That's the dash finished, pity it will be difficult to see once the bodyshell is on, although I plan to drop the side windows. At the last minute I noticed the steering wheel housing was not standard so I replaced it with a couple of lengths of tube. The guages should not have chrome bezels but I'm not that daft enough to attempt to replace them. The Belkits wheel is a pretty good replica of the deep dish one, fortunately. mbdesignart
Well the interior is finished, if my camera would play ball and not focus on the roll cage I'd upload some decent images. Anyway I started to throw the wheels on and noticed a distinct lack of clearance to the inner arches. Looking at period photos the car rides quite high so it looks like the saw is coming out. What's the B word?😠The brass pins in the tyres are for fixing it to a base.
mbdesignart
The suspension has been altered and hopefully will achieve the correct look. A couple of 2mm plastic rod blocks at the rear and I put a plasticard plate in the front turrets to stop the struts poking through. Â Â Also the morning light has allowed me to get a couple of interior shots before the lid goes on. A couple of the belt buckles are incorrect but that's all the spares box coughed up.
