I could agree more, these tools are the go (I don't have one of those lovely JLC ones!! ), but I make up for it with my baby...the Micro Dremel!

Sanding sticks are a must and super cheap! Any of the ones they use for finger nails are perfect, plus if you can find the foam backed ones with the polishing pads even better. Keep a handful on hand. Plus a nice set of fine needle files are the go as well.

Wet & Dry sandpaper is a must, 240, 400, and maybe 800/1200 grit. Plus if you can find them some micro pads with grit unto 12000.

Also handy is a small (say 12"x12") piece of glass. Just put a sheet of 240/280 grit wet & dry on it and it makes a perfect block sanding surface, just what you need to get perfectly flat surfacers. Just use heaps of water with any sanding, for dry sanding you do need to wear a mask, resin dust is a bit nasty and does/will get everywhere.

As Alistair mentioned keep a careful eye on how much pressure you use and where!

The biggest thing though is to test fit, and test fit, and test fit, and test fit, and test fit, and test fit, and test fit, and test fit until your'e 100% happy then do a final test fit before using any glue as you'll only get one chance to get it right! I have some tips to help with this bit will post that in the Sea Fury thread.

From these pics i hope you can see how the original right hand wheel well comes down ferther than the left  .The plastic card fills in this gap .

This little shim fills in the gap between the end of the wheelbay and the plastic card iattached to wing .

It seems from the other builds  that have gone before me that assembling the undercarrage after the wheelbays had been completed so i have completed these before .

really nice job on the U/c Alistair. Do they supply the legs in metal or resin? From the pics it look like they've used a different type of resin, some of that really tuff stuff, which it'll need! I wonder if it has a wire centre?

Thanks Hewy , Rich and Greg

It took all weekend to attach the undercarriage housings and then get the engine cowlings to fit . After all the twisting and shimming to move problems further forward AKA kicking can down the road there was no where else to move the gap but now its tucked out of sight behind the exhaust collector ring .

used plastic card shim to fill a gap between wing and U/C housing and provide a secure larger area for glueing .

didnt lose many panel lines

From my refrance books it looks like the standard equipment for the B-2 was 2x 50kg bombs under the wings ,so i have borrowd some from a Revell Fw190 F8 as the Rutman kit comes with none .

Two things. First, the bombs look great under there, so that was a no brained. Second, you have pulled off some major surgical interventions with this bird and done a fantastic job blending it with the rest of the wing, so bravo!

This just gets better and better all the time!

Thanks Anthony .Silenoz and Col for your kind words .

Today i have constructed the Schatton Modellbau 3cm MK 103 .  God knows how these are made as the tolerances are so small .Fit of parts gets 100% but took an age to assemble . Do not attempt withouta powerful optivisor !

To be sure that the barrel was fixed in the corect position i fired 1/2 dozen AP rounds at a target and useing the securing/adjustment eye centred it in . first rounds high and to the right

Nice zero, but you still have to do your night qualz, remember to load the tracer rounds and definitely have a fire extinguisher on hand, these rounds definitely like starting sofa fires!

So tell us the truth, did you just think of this, or have you been planning since you placed the order for the barrel? This post needs to be pinned! Every member needs to see it.

haha, did you make the right bang bang noises??

Those engine housing ended up fitting quite nicely.

I had to have a couple of looks to see how that barrel went together, nice!!! I'm amazed at the work required to produce some of these barrels, same goes for the FuG antennas. But boy they are worth it, they just take everything to the next level.

You got that right. The manufacturers of models hive us the basis for our art, it is in the details that these models transition from hobby to art, at least in my book. Since returning to modeling, I have been shocked by the level of detail being added to these kits, and the resin or metal items, like this gun, really just knock it out of the park with their realism.

Then you have the true aritsts in here, those who can scratch build just about anything in their sleep. More over, they can create pairs that are identical, in scales that make me cringe just considering trying to do something similar. It truly is awe inspiring. One day, I will be you, and someone else will be me as I am now, OK, now I am confused. Who are you? More important, who am I?

That's what resin dust will do to you!!! That's why you have to wear masking

Alistair's probably still running around the place making engine noises and strafing runs on the work bench for his display shelves. Needs to be careful else the neighbours will call for the dudes with the white jacket! :D

Rich ,resin kits are now been smuggled into UK jails . For some reason 1/32 scale isnt popular 😨

Back to the Hs 129 ... iv been doing this along side a Aims 1/48 Ju 388 conversion with the aim of getting them to painting stage together so i can get into the Paint-Zone together .

They are around the same size .

The vac canopy for the 388 took around a week to cut out ,mask and ttach ,the 129 around 2hrs .

There are some pics of my Ju388 mixed in with the 129  as it doesnt have its own home thred .

Wow, doing to aircraft at once and scratch build one of the engines? Do you build in your sleep? I can't one kit even started without screwing the pooch and having to toss it into the bin (really just a test bed for honing some skill) and you will have two creations ready for take-off in picture perfect form, it's amazing! You guys really set the bar high, one day, I might be half as good as you guys are!

Cheers!

gee the 388 looks nice!

Rich i would have expected you to have one of these conversions in your stash  or maybe two for some weird Ju388 Z wing conversion :yikes:

How was the Ju 388 to put together? Might be an option for me down the track

Greg , the conversion is relativly easy apart from the complex transparencies . Forwarned is forarmed . Probably easier than the Planet models full resin kit .

Thanks Anthony . I try never to send a model to the bin  . Only once in past 40 years due to spilling a full bottle of liquid cement on it

Looking forward to seeing more.

Thanks Alan . It helps having two on the go so i can have a rest from this one .

Now i have been doing some work on the painting and some smaller details

A decision has been made on the aircraft to portray ....Roll of drums .....W.Nr 0310 , 4.(Pz)Sch. G.2 , Castel Benito Libya Feb . 1943

i have chosen this one due to my Storch build haveing a RLM 65 /70 /71 with sand squiggle , so wanted something different .

Have painted and masked off all the white areas and done a crude 70/71 splinter camourflage as most of this will be coverd up .

33910108878_e1d38f863c_b.jpgP1030087 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr

The radio mast is scratch built from some plastic sprue and the pennant from some aluminium heat insulation tape .

Each area of exposed splinter has been coverd in a very large area of Copydex .

These areas are to simply mark the position of the green patches . I intend that ,when my RLM  79 sand arrives i shall spray a very light misting over all upper surface ,light enough that it doesnt build up over the edge of the Copydex  .

I wil remove the copydex and the go over free hand with the sand to soften the edges of the green patches and reduce their size .

Well thats the plan .Its a bit of an experiment but in my head it should work .

Cant wait for the paint to arrive ... i may go and order some more  from the UK now and pay for priority posting .

that engine is a bit of a pity when looking at the rest of the kit... no need to show it off then...
