Good job on the darker camo sections, they make for a nice and subtle difference.

I'm interested to see how the rotor fold turns out, as you are ex-Chinook it will be very interesting to see what you make of it.

I think that maybe a hinderance rather than a help Craig, as although in theory the blades on a Chinook could be folded manually I don't know of anyone who has ever done it.

Anyhow started to build up the rotor heads, drill (deeper than the instructions say, but I don't think that it matters) and cut off the parts that I am meant to, and added these to the weather shields. So tonight I am going to have a look at how this might fit together. I have got some pictures from the wonderful web, so hopefully they will help with how the blades lie in relation to the fuselage. I have also applied a couple of coats of Klear so will be decaling soon.

Thanks Craig, it does seem that way, but there is still some work to be done. The pictures below show how I have set up the rotor heads, with the aft one on the left. Two of the aft blade sleeves have been angled so that those blades will be down along side the fuselage. I have looked at a few photos but I cannot determine for certain which is the master blade that the head stops at when the blades are folded. I ask as the decal sheet has many a coloured stripe for the rotor heads and blades, so if I can find out the master blade I may be able to use them.

I now have the majority of the major decals on, pictures tomorrow, and I have found out that will need to paint a bit more of the darker Grey around the upper fuselage walkways. I am not sure how many of the stencils I will apply as there just seem to be loads of the sheet, probably just the major ones. More hopefully tomorrow.

As promised last night some pictures with the main decals applied. There is some painting of the darker Grey to be done around the walkways, which will hopefully be done very carefully.

I'm just catching up with this one and it's looking great.  It's nice to see the variety of schemes being represented in this relatively small Group Build :)

Thanks kindly.

I have now applied over a couple of days the majority of the stencils. It was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be in that the decals on the sheet are lined up from to back of the helicopter meaning that I could doe several decals at once to one side or the other rather than searching the whole decal sheet for the decals that I wanted. A well done to Academy on that point. The stencils that I have not applied at the moment are ones that are applied to the doors and a few places like that so they can be applied later. I have started to paint the blades and rotor heads, so should get them finished in a day or so. I am now looking into the add on parts such as aerials and lights to see what colours are needed for them. So onwards and upwards.

A little bit of weathering has been carried out, mainly to the rear of the engines and around some of the panel lines. I will apply some sand dusting powder at a later dates when a few more bits are added. I have also started to add the smaller parts, such  as the wheels and covers around the engines. A few more will be added tonight. I have also painted up and applied the decals to the rotor blades and heads. The colour stripes fitted to these components were a little testing as some of them broke before I even got them off the backing sheet. Still I do think that the effort was worth it as you can see in the last photo. MOre later.

Really looking excellent Jabba, the fuselage looks to be about finished other than the sand weathering you mentioned.

The rotors are going to look great too, I think that you're right about those tricky decals being worth the effort.

Looking forward to further progress, and a spot in the gallery before too long.

Thanks again Craig.

Getting there slowly. A few more parts added, although the rear ramp at the moment is not glued but the actuators are to the fuselage. I had pre-painted the bases of the aerials and anti-col lights, but guess who put the lighter grey painted one on the rear of the aft pylon. A bit more to add, and remove (masking) before I start on the gluing of the rotors experiment.

I would have called this done, until I took these pictures. When I looked at the model I noticed that the Fwd R/H blade was pointing upwards at a strange angle (I am sure I set this differently when I set them up) when it should be roughly flat. So I will hopefully gently snap the rotor head so the it can be reset at a more correct angle.

So hopefully tomorrow or in a few days time I will have some pictures of the finished model. Some of you may have noticed that the rear of the ramp doors in dangling down. Although this is not one of the kit options, I did see a fair few of the CH-46s at Ali Al Salem like this during OIF.

I like the rear door hanging down and if you actually saw them like that then who can complain?

Forgot that there is a picture of this that I posted in the reference section.

The rotor is now all sorted and so as promised some end product pictures. Some of you may have noticed that the tips of the blades have not been painted black, this has now been sorted.

Well done Jabba!

Another different colour scheme for the gallery which helps to show the many different schemes that this iconic helicopter can be finished in.

Great that you have the connection to these in that you actually saw them (and photographed them for us) in this scheme in the Gulf.

I have enjoyed your build very much, thanks for taking part in the GB and I look forward to seeing her on your Gulf War Sig stand at model shows.
