In the silent Steppes of Ukraine

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

With my Maus project, temporarily shelved due it being in another location I decided to start something else to occupy myself from daily tasks.

This time I'll be working on a BMP-2 (D?) in colors of the Ukrainian army. The setting for this vehicle is going to be quite specific. I have imagined this one sitting on the side of a road in the Ukrainian Steppe knocked out with a shot to the side by the Donetsk separatists. Somewhere around the vehicle, I want to put two or three graves of the crew each hosting an Orthodox Christian cross. If I'll be lucky I might get a hold of some Ukrainian soldiers in 1/35 fitting the scenery. A rather sad and real scenery.

So far I've been able to find those things in my stash:

Trumpeter BMP-2D IFV

AMMO MIG - Ukraine ATO Colors set

Panzer Art burn out road wheels for a BMP

A Metal barrel for BMP-2 that I can't find the producer of.

So some problems I have already run into are:

1. I can't find any pictures of BMP-2D taking part in the Donbass conflict. Neither can I find a full list of differences between Ukrainian BMP-2 and the BMP-2D. A worst case scenario, I will scratch build the fenders which are the only things beside he addon armor I could find are different from the modern Ukrainian BMP-2

2. The kit from Trumpeter has a quite decent interior and I would like to expose it a bit, but I have no clue how to do the interior of the vehicle after a hit and burnout. Somebody of you might need to give me tips or/and guides here.

So that it for today. I believe that this project might take a while. Any help will be welcome :D. Updates will follow soon.

Jakub

I have several photos of Ukrainian BMP2 from the first year of the Russian agression, but it is the vehicle used by my close friend. I won't like to see it destroyed with graves...
