Yowzer! Where did the week go? All the hard work is done on our project at work now, just gotta hold tight until it’s out in the wild. Which means I might start to get some bench time back. 😍 

Well here’s some bits and bobs that got done during the week. 

The engine compartment got painted and top coated ready for its mighty heart.

as I said I’ll add some more wires and bits and bobs when she’s all together.

I also did another coat on the grill with Tamiya black.

I’m more happy with that stuff on chrome than the Flory. 👨‍🎤  Next up I sprayed the clear parts.

And unmasked! 

nice. 👨‍🚀 and a good fit too.

And inside.

I was wondering which bit to do next over the past day or two and decided I was putting off the chrome. So out with the pen. I shook it and shook it. The chrome looked good so I popped it on the lower part on the body. It looked good..... but after a bit of scribbling it began to look like I’d drawn on it with a pen. 🙀 not happy I Tried to erase the mistake with mr hobby thinners. BIG mistake. It erased EVERYTHING! 😨 in a bit of a panic I tried to use white spirit to get the chrome off. That didn’t work either just smudged everything. Luckily all this was on the lower band. So remembering @rob Lyttle I think who uses tin foil to do chrome parts I needed a fix soooo. I have never done this before so working live is a bit of a clench time, if you know what I mean. Foil cut to size.

I used gators grip thinned with some water and popped the foil down then rubbed smooth with a cotton bud.

I let it dry for a bit then cut and folded.

phew!🤗 luckily this covered all the rubbish and looked pretty good too. I moved onto the windows.

My Foil has little hexagons on it so more confident after my first go I tried new stuff.

smoothed out the foil with the back of my nail.

Added the glue and pushed it into place.

hmmmm looking good. A real pain to keep in place though so I left it like this until dry a little (a minute or two) then used a fresh blade like you would when masking and slowly and gently stroked in the gaps until the foil started coming away. Death by a thousand cuts. 🤠 eventually we have this.

I wanted to wait until dry so I moved onto the side window.

Same process. Seems to be working. Yay!

After about 15 minutes everything seemed dry soooo with balls of steel I took a knife to the rear window.

gently does it. Slicing through and pushing out I had a rim left to curl over and burnish down. Gluing the insides I eventually had this.

And the widow still fits.🤓

I’m super happy with this process. So on with the side window.

I’ll add Tamiya black to the grooves to make everything settle at the end.

tired I decided to stop for the night. But before I did I glued the rear lights section. I’d previously done a wash on the chrome parts.

seems like a happy place to stop for the night. Kiss is on the radio and I’m tired so with that. I’ll bid you all good night.

Superb work, particularly for the window surrounds. When you say tin foil, is that just normal kitchen foil or something a little thinner?

That back lights panel looks like the BUSINESS too. 

Obvs plastic cement glues will be totally ineffective on a foil surface, but you'll be using other transparency fix anyway, I expect.

Thank you. Sorry for the super late reply. Yup regular run o’ the mill Tin foil. Waitrose own I believe. I might try and get something thinner though.

Thanks Rob, I’ll be using gators grip I think. I don’t trust anything else on clear parts these days.

From my experience, after the gloss coat received its cure time (up to 72 hours), the Tamiya enamel wash can be applied like filter or just via the capillary action (as it intended to be). Within the next few days it can be freely wiped out by a cloth with a Zippo lighter fluid. You don’t need an enamel thinner - it’s practically the same things.

My word! I got chores and plastic in today.

I have dough ready for pizza in the kitchen proving, got the boys hair cut and I’m drinking a rather crappy lager left over from our Christmas party. Dog in lap, radio 6 on, swimbo out with friends, kids upstairs. It’s chunky cardigan time. 😇

Here goes.

And on the little handles too.

this foil stuff is pretty good. I need more Gators grip though as I’m running low and mine is gloopy. Word to the wise it’s hard to get hold of at the mo. 😬

I also needed to get chrome on the rear side windows. So.

this seemed to work well. 😃

I plopped some Tamiya black into the bonnet, or should that be “Hood”

Gators grip got liberally added to rims and the windows got added on all sides.

even added the rear view mirror. 

All looking good. I did a Tamiya black pass on all the windows and panel lines.

Also decided to put all the chrome bits on. I started with the grill.

Then the bumper.

The office. (Can I call it that?) got a dry fit.

not too shabby. 🥰

But needs a good glue to fix in place. So for the first time in a long time. “Pegs”

weeeell. “Peg” 😜

I also did a quick fit of the wheels but they wobbled around like mad?  Now I’m new to cars but this doesn’t seem right so I praised off the hubs and glued the pegs in place even though the instructions said not to. 🤷🏻‍♂️ We’ll see I guess. 

I tried to fit the chassis too but that was a bit of a struggle. I’ll see how it goes after everything dries. Well here we are as of an hour ago. I’m on dinner duty now so more tomorrow.

Try to find a product called bare metal foil if you do more window surrounds. 

It works well on aircraft too!

Chrome pen? A bit of a 'technique' to using these I guess… I found the same problem as you in that you get 'brush marks' but, if you put MORE on in 'wet coats' it does seem to self level; try it again on some scrap and I hope you'll see what I mean.

Thanks Ced. I do get the wet coat technique it’s just that I was running along the red paint and masking wasn’t really an option. One slip and it was curtains and I don’t think I had the kahoonas for it.

Not unheard of with Revell's models using the metal pins to hold the wheel on. I had exactly the same problem with my Mustang... and exactly the same solution. My take on it was that I'm not an 8-year old kid playing with toy cars anymore, and it's only going to sit on the shelf now. In my opinion you did the right thing there.

Well that was productive. 🥰

A lot done today, I’m pretty much done on the old Ford, I even got the Kamov Helix RFI done. 🧜‍♂️ But enough of that let’s get back to this beauty.

I tried to fit the chassis in place once it was all dry.

the front’s a doddle. The rear however. 🧟‍♂️

whaaaaaa?  Well it gets to the point where you need to make a leap of faith. Basically you have to bend the rear section out quite a lot to eventually slide the rear end in.

when it pops it’s actually a good fit.

now glue! 

And pegs.

it’s been a while since I used pegs.

The engine bay looks fuller now too. 😀

There are a bunch of decals I need to add.

started with the bonnet, there were a few inside the engine bay and a bunch around body work. The wheels had dried so with some extra help.

I slipped ‘em into place.

rear.

front. All looking good and not a wobble in sight. 🙌

ta  daaaaa. 🥳

Next of the last bits. Lights got washed last night so I could fit.

The clear parts. 😁🤗

I don’t think I’ve used Gators grip so much in all my life.

I started adding the wires I’d promised.

looking busy. I’ll bend the wires when they’re dry.  I glued the rear panel too.

oh and knocked back under the bonnet.

I only have the wing mirrors and licence plates left to do.

so we’re here.

 

looking just how I wanted.  So close to finished it hurts.

Next build might be a big un. But let’s get this out of the way first.
