The Spadgent
Starsky and Huch Revell 76 Ford Torino 1/24 Hutch “Starsky it’s red.” Starsky “It’s not red, it’s Candy Apple red.” Hello and welcome to my first ever car build. I usually frequent the Aeroplane pages of our fine modelling site but a modeller cannot live on wings alone. 🙉This Particular Beauty holds a lot of memories for me and has a special place in my heart. Being in my early fourties I was a massive Starsky and Hutch fan so when I saw this kit at the LMS in Brum it was a bit of a no brainer. I’ve seen a few of these built and I’d planned on doing a run down version but I think I’ll leave that for another time. I’m not going for pristine as I love to weather stuff.........Hell let’s see where this takes me. I’ll probably scratch a few bits and bobs here and there and have a whole heap of fun in the process. I hope you will join me for the ride. 😎 please feel free to pop up with any comments, hints or tips as most of my knowledge is with wing things. (Please be kind) 😉 without further ado let’s begin. The box. No license for the show it seems.🤔 still we know who’s it is right. I have made my box a top opener, hate those side opening things. The sprues are great with some really nice details and these chrome parts are awesome. You don’t get this kind of sprue in WW2 planes. I have actually started with the engine as per the instructions. There are some seems though. so I sanded and got rid of them. There is more but I’ll have to post tonight as dinner needs to be made and dogs need to be walked. Thanks for looking in and as always chums. Happy Modelling. Johnny. Edited March 5, 2019 by The Spadgent

The Spadgent
Right then where were we? aaaah yes engines. 😵 Apparently the real one looks a bit like this. the kit one has a silver bit on top and less wires but I’ll have a go at scratching some of that but BLUE!!!!🤠 I’m planning on keeping the chrome on the chrome bits and adding a flory or AK wash. I found that even cutting from the sprue you lose chrome so I added it back with this. that I found thanks to @CedB tool master to the gods of modelling. 🧐 Having a severe case of plastic and gluing sweats I cut glued and put a metric flip tonne of stuff on sticks. Some has pin marks. but not for long. 😺 Some had seams. there’s a theme. I did a dry fit to see how cool this thing will look. 🤩 bigger than any cockpit I’ve ever put together. The seats needed a bit of Mr Surfacer to get rid of the pesky gappage. Tat got sanded and I clipped off some other parts. The undercrackers are ace!! but I needed to drill the pipes. yes that’s my pin vice. 😐 hopefully I’ll get the underside to look a bit like this. well that’s the plan.🤪 lets hope as the bits. increase. and get ready for primer. All of a sudden my strange red a black and silver CrAzY looking kit looks strangely familiar. 😇 The detail on these bits is great. sooooo looking forward to making these look like this. 😍 There was more work done over the weekend but I feel like I need to post this for fear of losing my update. I also need to make a post on my Wocca that is nearly finished. It’s HERE if you fancy a shufty. Thanks for popping by to check on my Candy Apple on wheels. Take care and Happy Modelling. f111guru
Well Johnny, you got my attention with "Candy Apple Red". I'm undecided with Plum Crazy or Brandy Wine for my full size 57 Chevy Sedan. Time will only tell. I'll have to post the hood one of my fellow workers did for me while he was in the body work Vocational Class. Watching with interest. Tomoshenko
Great start Johnny. Fellow fan of the series myself so what's not to like about this build. I understand they used several cars each episode, but I don't suspect your're light weathering and scratch details additions will include a wrecked suspension ... 1
Spookytooth
Great start Johnny, I think I will tag along if you don`t mind. Let`s see what you can do a car. A pretty damn fine job I think. Simon.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it has the 30 m cord and the 980W engine! 🐱 Great progress, I love your enthusiasm! What about a chrome marker drying time? I looked at this stuff but someone said somewhere that it doesn’t dry well. It would be nice to hear your opinion. Cheers! 🙂
The Spadgent
Right then more lovely Torino action. 😇 blue engine bits you say? Well first off we need some silver bits painted. I decided to use a hairy brush on the back section. I will do a post shade as pre shading silver is a fools errand. 😮 I used Vallejo extreme metal paint. Looks good. 🤖 masked with Tamiya tape ready for the ace looking blue. Then she got sprayed and unmasked pretty much straight away. Love that colour! 😍 The pipes got a coat of steel. Nice! I painted over the chrome on these parts to make them aluminium. I then began to put it together. And gave her a post shade with Tamiya smoke. After drying time she got a gloss coat. I’m planning on running some wires from the distributor to the plugs. I’ll use painted lead wire. Worked well on be Helix build. While the airbrush was mucky I popped in some black and did a pre shade on the other parts. oooh this is getting interesting. Not sure whether to start on the seats or the cassis. Hmmmm🤔 I’ll try and get to the bench but it’ll more than likely be this weekend. Thank you for all your kind words and time spent looking in on my madness. Hope you’re all having a fab week. Take care guys. Johnny.

Tooth pick and Tamiya tape with a drill bit at the end. 🤣 The chrome marker isn’t instant to dry but it’s not long. The little bits I used on the engine parts dried in a few minutes. If you do big blobby spaces maybe an hour to be sure? Less I think though. Hope that helps. John

Spookytooth
Car Keys and Clutch, what a series from the 70`s Not forgetting Huggy Bear too. It beats a lot of garbage shown on TV nowadays though. Simon.
DarylH
I'm loving this build. From a time when these big dinosaurs ruled the American road. These big de-tuned engines with their smog pumps struggled to make the power that the old straight sixes used to make. Mine was a big Dodge Charger. It was an "interesting" time. And amongst my social group it was "Husky and Starch" Edited March 8, 2019 by DarylH 1 1

The Spadgent
Looking like some kind of Good evening everyone. Thank you for all the kind words. Not a lot done st the bench over this weekend unfortunately but here’s what did get accomplished. I decided to attach the cables spark plug end. infortunatly the strength wasn’t there to wangle them around and pop them into the distributor and they fell off one by one. 😣 so not deterred I drilled out the distributor and added the wires that end instead. Looking like a sprouting alien this ended up being a stronger bond. 😄 the wires then got bent into place and the silver bits got glued on. The underside got sprayed. As did the internals. The seats. Door panels. Dash. Radiator. hell everything got a bit of a blast. as these bits are mostly black it’s always going to be a struggle to add variation so I sprayed with a base coat of Tamiya rubber black and dark grey at 2:1 ratio. The pre-shade just about showed through. 😊 I had planned to paint the main body but noticed these dirty little pin marks so decided to leave it till next time at the bench. The parts got a gloss coat and dried before trying out some Tamiya wash that I have never used. Might work? After the success of the AK wash I figured that the Tamiya stuff would be good. As you can see here. it’s not bad but I’m not 100% happy. I think I might do a flory black wash. these bits got washed too. There is something I like about the initial wash. I used white spirit to buff off even though it says to use Tamiya thinner. I did use thinner but for fear of it wrecking the gloss I resorted to Spirit.does anyone have any experience with black Tamiya enamel wash? I’ll leave it dry and see what it looks like in the daylight. I think adding highlights will bring everything to life. We shall see. 🤔 Hope you’re all having a fab weekend. Take care and as always. Happy modeling. John. 🙌

Pete in Lincs
Nice work so far. I hope you got the firing order right on the plugs or it'll never start. You may need a Police radio under the dash with a hand held microphone on a curly wire. And maybe a magnetic roof mounted 'bubble gum' light also on a spiral wire. State of the art back then. Somewhere like littlecars could possibly help here? From what I remember the actors saying when interviewed, it was a pig to drive during the stunts. 1
giemme
Great job on the engine and interiors, Johnny! Although I agree with you about the look of that wash, the Flory stuff seems to be more effective in your hands ... Ciao 2
rob Lyttle
I know you're a happy modeller, Johnny, but this lil project has taken it to a new level. You're in your element. "Joy" is the word that springs to mind! And it's coming through on the thread. 1
