Avalon Airshow - Saturday

Further to Pacificmustang's wonderful shots , here are some of mine (not all in fine focus-eyesight is not a strong point here)

The great thing about Avalon is the variety of aircraft on show. You can also can get up close and personal to a fair number of exhibits which was a boon as it got rather hot on Saturday so the shade provided by various wings and fuselages was much appreciated.

B52 with Royal Malaysian Air force A400 in the background. Grab that shady spot while you can. It filled up as the day went on

I'm amazed by the absence of multi-coloured traffic cones and ropes around the static displays!

The dreaded blue cones were all over the place - I'm sure they migrate south during the European winter months.:)

Strangely enough the fences at the nose and rear of the Reaper were probably there more to protect the public from hitting their heads on the prop and getting their eyes poked out by the probe than protecting the drone itself.

I was there on Sunday. There were a few things missing that I've loved seeing in previous years - nothing from HARS for example. The Malaysian A400M had left which was a shame. But I enjoyed the show. It wasn't quite as hot as it would have been on Saturday but I was still pretty hot and sweaty by the end!

I reckon I might have seen a few of them at Fairford last year!

It looks like a terrific show and with great weather too. It amuses me that people were using the aircraft to shelter from the sun whereas in the UK the crowd would be using the aircraft to shelter from the rain that is if they were allowed to get sufficiently close to them.

I remember the Vulcan sheltering quite a big crowd from the rain at Woodford!

It was 39C with little shade other than that provided by the aircraft.  Keeping hydrated was vital and by the end of the day I was totally knackered.

great shots Pinback

Love the shot of the F-18 tails

I didn't get down as far as the B-52, started down the line, got as far as the Poseidons and Chook, then thought "stuff this" and headed back to the fence line to get wind blasted whilst I waited for the flying display.

One of the most uncomfortable Avalon's I've attended weather wise.  For our UK viewers, most days are usually warm and sunny with clear blue skies, but I have attended on days where there has been a 40k hot wind, and its also rained and thunderstormed

That was a bit of a downer - There was a P3 Orion in the static - I wondered if that was the one owned by HARS? (Not sure of its status)

It was certainly hot! The B52 was worth the nose around - My wife would disagree , but how can you not spend a decent amount of time in the undercarriage bay, trying to work out which bit goes where when the gear is retracting? :)

Avalon's weather sounds like a summer holiday I had in Cornwall a few years ago only without the warm and sunny days and definitely no 40k hot wind.
