Italeri 1:24 - Ford MK II Escort Custom RS Mexico paint

Recommended Posts

Hi guys!

Im new here and this is my first post (fingers crossed :) ).  Its been nigh on 25 years since i last built a model, and wanted to make my brother something special for his 50th birthday.

This is an Italeri 1:24 Ford Escort MK II RS 1600 kit, I didn't go with the paint or decals as I was trying to reproduce what my brother had built himself IRL, the RS Mexico version of the MKII.  some pics of the model, with some of the real thing at the end.

Still getting to know my airbrush and paints, things sure have changed in the past 2 decades :D

Painted with a mix of Tamiya X and LP with dash of Italeri acrylics.  Looking forward to reading the critique.  Tips on the airbrushing side are very welcome, just couldn't get a nice even gloss for the life of me.

Loving it! Terrific job on that exhaust - a feature not often modelled as you have ie realistically rusty!

Hey guys thanks for the kind words :) angles were my friend photographing it :)

@PatW , Thanks! I rushed through this because his birthday was so close, and i got started late. I did this in about 10 days, with just evenings and weekends.  But I may do another and give myself more time to get it right. Loving the Zen of filling and sanding, and detailing paint work.

@Windy37 , Unfortunately not he sold it many moons ago, but its still out there, I remember seeing some pics of it on a ford forum not long ago, so its still being taken care of thankfully.

@Spad , Thanks ! I've done more props than models in the past and used techniques i used on those, an iron paste and rusting solution, was quite chuffed at how it turned out, real easy effect for the look you end up with.

If the car does still exist , it's not being used .  I checked on the DVLA website & it's not been taxed since 1992
