milktrip
Hello, here's my contribution to the GB. I plan to try an build a Columbia Helicopters version. Obligatory box and sprue shots: the scrappy bit of paper was me playing about on word in prep for making my own decals. Initially thought the HobbyBoss kit would suite my needs as reviews indicated that is was the same as the Fujimi kit. However, there are some subtle differences, one of which is the engine exhausts being moulded direct onto the fuselage piece (the fujimi gives you a choice). I bought the fujimi kit, but the only one I could find was the kit with larger sponsons so I will have to borrow the sponsons from the Hobby boss kit. Cheers Aaron
Rob G
Nice to see civvy birds getting a geurnsey! I'm attempting to get around to doing something(s) similar, but seeing as I'm no graphic artist I'm a little limited in what I can do- if the markings aren't simple enough to cut a mask for, or I can't get a decal sheet, I'm stumped. More power to you, sir!
modelling minion
A truly excellent choice Aaron, it will really stand out (in a good way) amongst the military ones being built so far. Printing you're own decals is something I would like to do too so I'm really interested to see how this works out for you. 1
CliffB
Yes, it's great to see a civilian machine making an appearance 1
Nigel Heath
Hi Aaron, that is a most attractive scheme. I have no doubt that this will turn into one of your helicopter modelling gems. 1
milktrip
Thank you very much. It was the rotorblades that sold the scheme to me, hope I can do it justice. Im away on holiday for 5 days as of tomorrow so yesterday and today was spent blitzing the interior. On my phone just now, so will post pictures from my PC later
milktrip
UPDATE I noticed that all the Columbia 107's have the rear doors removed, I presume to reduce weight. Not much going on inside the Fujimi kit so out with the Evergreen. Using a thin strip of plastic card and my RP punch & die set, I punched out holes; I went by eye rather then measuring hence the wonkiness, but it should suffice. Also adding some detail to the pit; just to 'busy it up' a bit - thought I'd use eazyline for the instrument cables - seems to be a better option than copper wire. improved the seats as well. well, thats me for at least 5 days... cheers for looking Aaron
modelling minion
That is excellent work on the interior Aaron, very convincing. I didn't realise Columbia removed the rear doors from their helos. The cockpit looks suitably busy too with the extra wires, this is going to be another of your excellent builds!
wimbledon99
That interior detailing is superb!
Nigel Heath
Awesome work Aaron, I'm very impressed with that cabin interior. Quote I went by eye rather then measuring hence the wonkiness The wonkiness is imperceptible. I may be stealing this idea for the ribbing (but my plan is to have the cargo door on mine closed and only the side door open, a la my Osprey, so it might not be strictly necessary). Inspirational though.
modelling minion
Obviously i expect you will be doing your build as an in flight diorama like the one in this picture; https://i.redd.it/62wn54re3llx.jpg Got to love those multi-coloured blades, which look perilously close to the ice to me!
milktrip
Some photo that reminded me of this video I had seen. Unbelievable, I struggle to corner my car without clipping the curb...
modelling minion
That has got to be some of the best flying I have ever seen! Would also make a great diorama, not as good as yours though .

milktrip
hello, interior pretty much done & fuselage pieces glued together. I wanted to keep wires & tubing minimal. For the Cabling I used white EZ line - the multicore was 4 strands twisted together and drops of CA glue placed at certain points. Normally I would have used copper wire for this sort of detailing, but I'm glad I went with the EZ line. The wires for the headsets in the cockpit are copper wire wrapped around an acupuncture needle to create the helical and them coloured with permanent marker pen. The harnesses are eduard PE from my spares, the instrument are the kit decals. I'll probably weather the cockpit area a bit more. sneaky fire extinguisher from whirlybirds. cheers for looking Aaron
modelling minion
That really is excellent work Aaron, the white EZ line is very effective indeed and really does look the part. Nice job on the cockpit too, it all looks very good indeed.
wimbledon99
Cracking job. As Craig said, the wiring looks superb!!
milktrip
thanks very much guys. a small update: I wasn't certain, but some photos looked like the top section of windows were tinted so I've applied some Tamiya smoke to part of the pit glazing. I'm in the process of building moulds for the bubble windows. I've cut the the kit parts and masked and glued into their final position. I've also applied a wash and highlights to the cockpit. I used the cut offs as a template and built the frames from plastic card. The bubbles are black milliput which are coated in varnish; they need some minor finishing then I'll attempt to vacuum mould them. * Yes, they are suppose to be different sizes. ** sorry for the poor photo quality. cheers for looking Aaron

Nigel Heath
Highly impressive work and you are not hanging around, I'm still basically in the starting blocks. Looking forward to seeing how those windows come out 1

milktrip
Thank you very much guys. Bit out of practice with the vac forming and my first attempt didn’t work out; too big. I’ve started making two new moulds. However, I’ve been ask to go back to work for a week so I’ll be away from the bench until then. cheers Aaron
wimbledon99
Hi Aaron, Please excuse my ignorance but can I ask why you are forming your own 'glass'. Is it not supplied with that kit?
milktrip
Quote Hi Aaron, Please excuse my ignorance but can I ask why you are forming your own 'glass'. Is it not supplied with that kit? The imagine in my original post doesn't show it well, but the Columbia BV-107's have bubble windows on either side. One larger than the other. This pic is better. cheers Aaron 3
