Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.D and crew - 1/35 Dragon/Platz

Recommended Posts

This was my project for the Panzer IV Single Type Group Build. The kit is a much simplified Dragon kit with far fewer parts than their usual offerings but the detail seems pretty good all the same. It was actually a really fun kit to make.

Kit: 1/35 Dragon/Platz Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.D

Paints: Humbrol, Revell, Citadel and Railmatch Acrylic paints all applied by brushes

Figures: MiniArt Special Edition German Tank Crew

Base: 3mm MDF, Wilko picture frame, Household Filler, Vallejo European Mud, Woodlands Scenics Blended and other turfs, Army Painter tufts and grasses

Vignette style photos: Here

Great work on tank, figures & dio.

It it must have been a tight squeeze in there with 5 crew!

Pete

Hi Pete and thank you for your comments. I agree - it must have been horrendous in there for the crew.

Kind regards,

Stix

but what's with the T34 tow cable?

Very odd.....don't know......needs of war?

The cable is just a piece of nice string off some clothing label and the ends are from the spares box....I'm pretty sure either from Dragon's Pz.III or Tiger 1 early. I haven't build a built a 1/35 T34 so there won't be any T-34 spares in the box! Very odd.

More great work with your builds Stix, super detail like the Dio foliage and great work on the track sag ,Cheers.

Hi Jim. Thank you very much, as always, for your very kind comments. I have to admit I was very pleased to be able to get the track sag I did from the DS tracks Dragon provide in the box. It gives me hope for doing something similar in future with some kits I already have from Dragon with DS tracks.

Kind regards,

Tell you what after viewing again you have achieved an amazing mud effect.

What did you use?

Hi again Karl. Thank you for mentioning the mud - I had forgotten to include it in the opening section of the post - now corrected. On this build I have used stippled on, very thinned Humbrol 93 to represent the dried mud. Stippled on, very thinned Humbrol 29 to represent the dusty mud but the main effects mud was European Mud from the Vallejo range.

Kind regards,

Stix

Greetings from the aviation department.

Beautiful tank you've got there! While the finish is of course amazing, I personally love how you weathered it. Everyone knows that weathering is what makes a tank most realistic, and you've done an admirable job.

Regards,

Hi mate

Well, all in all its a nice model but it looks boring. The entire tank has the same tone of grey, no variations, you didnt set any shadows or highlights, the figures too, every figure have the same tone of grey, and just the uniforms of german Wehrmacht was really different in colour variations, coz the uniforms was made of a lot factorys, you have two boxes on the upper backward of the tank, even here both boxes have the same colour, why? Also the Jerrycan and the oil can same colour, why no variations?

Dont get me wrong mate, i dont want attack you in your personality, but its just constructively critism, hope you understand.

I'm loving the mud flap springs Stix!

But where's the ubiquitous bucket??????

Masterpiece.

Rearguards,

Badder

Hi Badder. I know it's flawed without a bucket but the only one I could find was in 1/48! So at least I'm sorted for my current build! Thank you for your kind comments as always.

Absolutely fantastic model and great pictures.

The T-34 tow cable must have been liberated from a destroyed Soviet tank meaning the tank would be in service in the Summer of 1941

Very nice job as always Stix. It sits well on that base.

John.

Hi John and thank you very much for your kind comments. The base was probably the simplest one I've done. I thought I was going to be struggling for time in the Pz.IV STGB so I decided to do it without any extras - but I think it looks okay for what it is. Some people have done or are working on some great looking bases in the GB. If anyone hasn't visited the GB yet there's still a week before it ends.

Kind regards,

Stix
