Fatcawthorne Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 OK, my first WIP in a long while has come to a bit of a disappointing end. I was going great guns until impatience was mixed with an equal amount of stupidity in a similar proportion to how I mixed Flory Wash with the not quite dry enough Pledge to create the new, and most certainly unwelcome, phenomenon of "Fledge"! Yes it could have ended up so much better and I know it; so be gentle, I feel bad enough already! I have tried to use the most flattering angles! Now I wasn't going to show you all my far too dirty knickers but in for a penny in for a pound. Although it has a B printed on the nose in my book this is very much a D Minus - must try harder! Arrrrrrggghhhhhhhh!!!! Chris 34
stevej60 Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 Don't be so hard on yourself Chris, look's superb,I have this one near the top of the pile in it's nightfighter scheme so I'll peruse your WIP 1

Kitchen Modeller Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Not sure if it was the wash mixing with the gloss but I quite like effect... looks weathered in the right way. All up, it’s quite a nice model. It’s a shame you’re disappointed but you’ll do better job next time. You’ll never get better if you think you’ve made a masterpiece every time😀 👍 1
BlackAck Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 My first thought looking at the first picture was "what's the problem here? I don't see it", it certainly looks like a Blenheim to me. Of course, if you're not happy with it, it's still a learning experience and you'll know better next time. 1
roginoz Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Can't see much wrong with that Blenheim. I'd be pretty pleased with it if it were mine ! Rog 1
Harold55 Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 (edited) I like it. All models have flaws but frequently only the builder knows they are there and they tend to disappear once the model is on the shelf and you step back. This one looks fine to me and I have one coming in the mail to tackle myself. Edited February 26, 2019 by Harold55 1
Sturmovik Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Looks fine to me, don't know what undesired effects you're talking about. 1
Greg Law Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 That's a great effort. The only real problem you seem have is the canopy glass. Is it foggy or is just the camera picking up something you can't see in reality? I had this problem with my Do 217 canopy. If it is on the outside just applied another coat of future. Mine was on the inside, but I managed to get to it with a bendy paint brush. It made a big difference. This was the advise Rabbit leader gave me. 1
AdrianMF Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Looks good to me, Fledge or no Fledge! Regards, Adrian 1
tonyot Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 It looks great Chris and I love the decal option you`ve chosen too,...... I`d be very proud to have that in my cabinet mate. As others have said,....I think you are being overly hard on yourself, but in modelling we all learn from our mistakes,....I know that is how I have plodded along over the years anyway,.... so thanks for passing on your experience to us too, All the best mate Tony 1
Ham Hands Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Nice Blenheim. I am sure others here would love to produce such a model. 1

I am sure others here would love to produce such a model. Thanks for your kind words fellas. I know I'm being hard on myself but I was going for a just about pre-war airframe finish which I assume would have been kept nice and clean. The Fledge made the end result look like a battle-hardened veteran of the France campaign as opposed to the clean but defined look I was aiming at. I have to say the photos look much much better than it does in the flesh (unlike my Passport snap!), and the Flash-induced overexposure has hidden a multitude of sins so you've fortunately not had the full experience! It's more the point that the build was going so well and then at the last hurdle the FUBAR Fairies make an appearance! 5 hours ago, Greg Law said: That's a great effort. This was the advise Rabbit leader gave me. Greg, this is the thing, the flaws in the canopy that I can see in the photos, (now I'm looking at it on my PC at work rather than the Laptop I composed the post on), aren't there in real life, it's just the small window above the B that got some TET dribbled down it when fixing the top clear part which clouded it and caused interior paint to run down the windscreen part. I thought I'd been careful enough but obviously not. I used a horses hoof (the orangewood stick thing that manicurists use to push back your nail cuticles) to scrape off the clouded Future inside the screen and then added more Future exactly as you suggested to get it to a much better end, but just unfortunately not perfect. What I did notice though were 3 windows that I hadn't unmasked. The depth of the framing on these clear parts made it look like a normal panel with the Tamiya Tape on it. 8 hours ago, Kitchen Modeller said: Not sure if it was the wash mixing with the gloss but I quite like effect... looks weathered in the right way. This kit is Nerdvana and if I could have kept up the standard of work before the Flory wash I'd be ecstatic and would never build any other kit but this ever again (OK some would be bombers for variation!). Thank you all for your kindness and positivity, it's much appreciated. 2
Ham Hands Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Credit where credit is due. Lovely Blenheim.
Ham Hands Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 (edited) If I may add... Completing a model isn't easy for many. Time takes over and skills improve.....there's the old model...does one want to complete it since those skills were surpassed? "No, I will build a new one with my better skills. I complete it!" Completion is worth the ? out of 10? Well done Sir. It looks beautiful to my eyes. Edited February 26, 2019 by Ham Hands
Greg Law Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 I thought that might be the case. Photos often show things that don't show in reality, hence the question. I often ask this question when I see this so others that are not aware of this issue don't judge the model on what they see. I have several models that look good to me, but look terrible when I phoograph them. By the way, I bought this kit last weekend. It has a special place for me as my two girls have put money into it for my birthday. I think it will also be one of the last models I buy
