AMStreet
I just spotted this on the Guardian website: Here The one that caught my eye was of the 112 Sqn Kittyhawks. Now I had always believed that the squadron codes were white but to my eye these look like medium sea grey. Enjoy
Giorgio N
Nice pictures, some quite well known but interesting nonetheless. Some detail are also interesting for a modeller, look for example at the finish of the USAAF B-26 and P-47: they are in natural metal but this is much less shiny than we often think of
MR2Don
The one of the P47 is interesting. Does the icon below the swastikas indicate he'd taken down three V1s?

That certainly looks like a V1... And this article gives a little more background. Looks as if he was a busy chap on 29th June 1944!
AMStreet
Regarding the finish on the B26 and P47 I think that given the hard lives these a/c led a matt finish would be understandable. They were operational and the ground crew would have had no time to polish them up. That's one thing that I really dislike seeing on some restored a/c. A lot of hard work has gone into making them look as if they had been chromium plated and to my eye that just does not look right. The owners of course have every right to present their a/c as they wish but I think it is a big mistake. Just like some over-zealous restorer polishing the patina off of an antique. Generally that destroys the value of the item. Just a pet hate of mine, I'm sorry to say.
Graham Boak
I'd describe the colour of the codes on the Kittyhawks as Sky Blue rather than Medium Sea Grey. Most of the pictures on the website (not the Kittyhawks) are published on the centre-spread of today's Guardian.
Mr T
Looking at the Hurricane photo, anyone notice the Spitfire V in the background, part of an escort? Also the Kittyhawks have yellow leading edges as fighter ID and yellow rings to the underwing roundels.
Graham Boak
Interesting thought, but as the Spitfire's engine isn't running, maybe not?
