I’m not sure how much help this will be, but as an ex 28mm war gamer I found the Perry Minatures website a great source of both models and information, they also did reference books. The Perry’s are Napoleonic era specialists.  The one thing I do remember is that Napoleonic era uniforms can be a minefield.

I have some of the Osprey books.  I don't know if they are still available as mine are over 20 years old now but I thought they were quite good at the time.  I have the Cavalry books which had tables of the different Collar, Cuff Flap, Cuffs and Pocket combinations.  It also. Had a list of main campaigns and actions per Regiment.

It is a complex area as Matt said above.  The documentation of the French army was quite good.  The rest, by all accounts, were hopeless..

Only 196 in the series...  Just remember that history is dynamic so books that I thought good 20 years ago are probably outdated by new research..

THis links to a very good site. In there you'll find more links to all the information for Napoleon and his enemies.

If you want to store the articles on your computer use an app that converts to .pdf format. I use Save as PDF and Print Friendly & PDF depending on the browser. Doing this will also preserve the live links.

When you've read all the articles ( in about 2 or 3 years) I could possibly have a little more for you

I forgot to mention that if the article is in a language you are not familiar with, simply use the browser translator before converting to .pdf and you can read the article in your chosen language at your leisure. 👍

Most of my Napoleonic library:

My books

On the left we begin with Rousselot, the French edition of all his plates -- never surpassed.  In the middle you have Bucquoy's 10 volumes, and to the right young Herbert Knötels four volumes in John Elting's editing (especially the two volumes covering non-French Napoleonics should be of help). The Ospreys cannot be seen but most of them are here. The maps below includes all of Richard Knötel's plates. You can access most of them from the internet at 'Grosser Generalstab'. Otherwise you can search for a DVD with all the plates. I printed them out from a CD (original series  more than 1000 plates). I have about a hundred of the originals.

The net is OK, and if you can find something with Rousselot's name on it... go for it. Edward Ryan has published a collections of his plates in the Brown Collection. Simply a marvelous volume. Just speculating where I put it. It is very expensive. Most of the plates are accessible at Pinterest (don't tell me about copyright, how they ended up there).

And don't despair, it took me a decade to collect these volumes. Ebay is fantastic.

Alas, checking the information, everything relating to grosser Generalstab has gone.  Maybe some has bought the rights, but Knötel died in 1914, so the rule of live + 70 years should apply.

Forgot: Google Alexis Cabaret. He has hundreds of plates covering all regiments at Waterloo.

Also google perconte + napoleonics, who has also other regiments, foreigners etc.

And of course Lucien Rousselot.

Ebay is also a place to search for information.

Just went to Ebay and found CDs with Knötel's Uniformenkunde (1960 plates) for a price of about 8£ or less (c. 80 Swedish Kroner). Just search for Richard Knötel. You will in that collection find almost everything you may wish for, including several plates of German states around 1800. The quality is absolutely top.

Jim,

You see, you can easily become totally absorbed by this interest in Napoleonics. There is so much out there to collect.

You could also go for the illustrations that followed the Historex figures by one of the leading French illustrators, Lelievbre. Most of them, or so I believe, can be found if you google Historex, and then images.

Other artists of notion would be Job (google Job + Napoleonics), and Conrad (Conrad + Napoleonics). The list is endless. Thus the ten Bucquoy volumes started as individual carts, hundreds of them. The collection can be bought for something like 10.000 £, just to say that it is also a jungle.
