1/24 Airfix Hurricane

Recommended Posts

Kit Manufacturer:   Airfix
Scale:   1/24
Extras:   None
Paint:   Hataka orange line

Seen four or five of these built recently with all builders slating it in a big way and two of them binning the model half way through the build. I thought i'd give it a go to see what the fuss was all about. For a 45 year old kit I can safely say I was impressed and really don't see what the issue is other than the engine cowlings. But, back in the day, these were designed to be off or on and nothing in between. Technology back then was not as great as it is today so really not fair to expect this kit to be like a Tamiya. Kudos to Airfix who had the bottle to tackle this super large scale! Anyway, I decided to have the cowlings in the fitted position hiding all the lovely detailing I had done in the engine bay. That aside I do believe she turned out quite well in a little over a week of spare time after work. Hope you agree!

Very attractively built and finished Airfix kit, which is old and demanding.

The "cockpit hatch" on the stbd side is an emergency push-out escape hatch, not a hinged entry hatch as on the Spitfire. It should definitely not be open with a pilot sitting in the plane, ready to take off! ;-)

The rather shiny paint and the soft edged camo makes the model look more like a modern warbird than a 1940 RAF Hurricane.

That said – a real showcase of impressive modelling skills!

Kind regards,

Joachim

Great build of the Airfix golden oldie,I built it a few year's ago and agree, if you fix the engine panel's in place that cure's the biggest pain

with this kit and as you have proved an impressive looking Hurricane can result.

Another Airfix 1/24 masterpiece. Very nicely modelled - something I have never tried myself. Such vibrant colours  -  I'm off to watch the new release of Hurricane on Sky tonight which was dedicated to the Polish boys that came over to help us out and went unrecognised for too long after the war. Lovely modelling work, and nice to see having recently enjoyed Airfix's 1/24 Stuka, the very recent 1/24 Spit all here on the same forum pages.
