Bundesheer...1/48 Cessna L-19A Bird Dog Austrian Airforce

Recommended Posts

#4/2019

Well, my dad did the best he could but sadly the model didn´t turn out as wished.
He used the new Roden kit, which is a typical one, mediocre fit, engineering and molding quality, the clear parts could be clearer too.
The selfmade style decals from Brent-Air-Decals weren´t convincing too, couldn´t prevent them from silvering.
Used a selfmixed paint for RAL7013 brown-grey. The kit inclides metal wire/rods for the antennas but my dad used plastic rods. Masking tape used for the seatbelts. Shapeways 3D printed spine antenna.

The Austrian airforce bought 7 L-19E in 1958 and a further batch with 22 L-19A in 1959. The last Bird Dogs were decommissioned in 1997.

Looks quite amazing from this perspective despite any shortcomings!

I would say you won that battle. Looks very good 👍. Pity about the glass not being clear as it is a big part of the kit and something the builder can't fix. Still you have done the usual fantastic job of it.

Nice looking Bird Dog, Reini, despite the decals and transparencies.

Cheers,

Very nice job on this kit.  (As an aside, I know some Bird dog pilots who credit the plane for its toughness, fuel capacity and great flying characteristics. One pilot informs me that he landed safely after a significant section of his wing was shot off over Korea).

CUrious—How would you compare it to the Model USA kit?

thanks!

Can´t really say much. Besides the Roden kit my dad started the Model USA kit too but quit after a short time. All I can say is the Model USA kit parts need more clean up work. Overall I´d say the Roden kit is slightly better.

Maybe there are already some comparisons to find online.
