MiG-15bis Soviet Airforce 59th Air Army Wiener Neustadt West 1955 1/48 - finished!

Recommended Posts

I feel the urge to build a second kit in the GB!

just learned recently that MiGs were based in Austria in force once!!

MiG-15bis

Soviet Airforce 59th Air Army

Wiener Neustadt West Airbase ~1950-1955

  • Trumpeter 1/48
  • Master pitot and canons
  • Cold War Studio fin correction

around 40-50 MiG-15s were based there in the 1950ies!

from the great GB chat thread:

CIA reports from Austrian the occupation time 1945-1955 are available publicly nowadays:

have a look if you are interested! The airfield obviously only had a grass/ earth runway, still MiG-15s and occasionally even Il-28s operated regularly and in force!

e.g.

https://www.cia.gov/library/readingroom/search/site/WIENER NEUSTADT AIRFIELD

https://www.cia.gov/library/readingroom/document/cia-rdp80-00810a001600730006-8

https://www.cia.gov/library/readingroom/docs/CIA-RDP80-00810A001600730006-8.pdf

no pictures unfortunalety!

so if someone has a photo of a Austrian based MiG-15,

that would be gorgeous! :)

Nice start Werner but I always thought the -15 cockpits were grey :hmmm:

Hmmm

Grey grey?

Maybe mine is a bit too turqoise... but plain grey?

unearthing  the UTI for a probably Trainers GB entry from way below the cellar stash I found some more goodies I could  possibly use here as well! :)

PART PE what did I think buying this flap set :banghead: !

the rest seems rather usable :)

and a Pavla seat..m maybe better use this KK1 seat here and the slightly different CIRO models one on the UTI....

Good lord werner, that looks complex, you have my deepest sympathy,  you must think of the finished product here👍

... and that is a good example of why I've given up entirely on P.E parts... difficult to cut, hard to fold, tedious to glue, easy to blow to oblivion with an airbrush.

Luckily there are modellers better than me, and I wish you good luck Werner.  Austrian-based Soviet planes are new information for me.

Nice find Werner! That flap set looks a model in itself though

Looks like a patience killer to me!

Lets see, did worse things and dumped simpler stuff.... ;)

PART PE is very soft, different to the common stiff Eduard one to work with ...

Hmmmm, about....Fifty Shades of Grey 😁😁😁....the problem is that the ejection seat could have a different, brighter light shade of gray than the gray color of the cockpit. This is the way seen in this photo:

This trend is displayed in the instructions of the Modelsvit, for example on the MiG-21F or I-7U. They offer for the color of the cockpit - Humbrol 87, for the color of the ejection seat -  Humbrol 64. However, in the Polish magazine MiniReplic the color of the ejection seat  indicates how FS 36293, this colour closer for Revell 371 or Humbrol 196.

I wrote about it:

....without answer.

😣

This differences in shadow grey creates more greater expression in cockpit!😉

good hint about the seat color!

😉😁😁

Of course, it would be best to publish in this topic a drawing of KK-1 from a Polish magazine (there was a series of articles on most Soviet ejection seat KK-1, KK-2, KM-1, KS-4, K-36), but I foresee problems with copyright.

I think it's possible so long as you give proper credit to the source of a drawing or photograph.

Dear, Col...as You probably know, I live in military conflict zone, therefore, any claims to me about copyright ...... well, I would like to look at those people who come here to sue for copyrights ...but I understand perfectly well that therefore, the problems will first of all be in the Britmodeller.

Especially since copyright issues are highlighted on the magazine website:

http://www.minireplika.pl/index.php/prawa-autorskie

I read Polish better than English; in short, they prohibit any publication of their materials without their consent.

True, there is one funny thing. MiG, Mikoyan, Su, Sukhoj e.t.c. it's registered trademarks, and any commercial use this trademarks without their consent entail prosecution. Hence the commerce

publication in Polish magazine MiniReplila  with mention MiG, Mikoyan, Su, Sukhoj e.t.c without their permission can also be a violation of copyright.

😁😁😁

moving along..

OIsLMAW.jpg

B2wCtob.jpg

this is an early Trumpeter kit... not the near first rate current toolings! (Su-11....n the 60ies GB was great fit wise!)

quite soft plastic, and less detail then you'd expect today from them ...but still relatively faultless (apart from the tail!!!)
