Bundesheer/Dad´s Jimmy...1/35 GMC CCKW 353 Austrian Army

Recommended Posts

This is gonna be my dad´s first 1/35 build since over 20 years. He will try to recreate one of the GMC trucks he drove during his conscript time in the Austrian Army in 1966.

Our Jimmys had steel beds, so the Tamiya kit wasn´t an option. Between the Italeri and the Heller kit, my dad chose the latter one because it includes a canvas for the rear.

The original molds are from the 70ies, this Italeri boxing is from the 80ies and it is still a nice kit. Fit is very good, molding quality is ok.

the Royal Model resin canvas doesn´t really fit, so my dad tried out the canvas from the Heller kit, some minor trimming and it will fit

Started with the decals (Schefczik company, which sadly doesn´t produce them anymore due to health reasons of the owner)

scratchbuilding on the rear almost done, used paper copies of the numberplate decals to spare them for other models

The old Austrian army trucks carried the wheel chocks on the front fenders, sadly the Italeri kit ones are too small. Had a chock set from Black Dog, but there are no fitting ones and the resin is of poorer quality...tends to break when sanding it.

So my dad keeps the chocks away and has only added the mounts.
