1/48 Chinook. HC Mk.1. ZA671. 7 Squadron RAF.

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Here’s my latest completion, the Revell 1/48 Chinook HC.Mk.1 depicting ZA671 with artwork celebrating the 75th anniversary of 7 Sqn back in 1989. This one was chosen from the stash by sister who was visiting from the UK and who is well used to the sound of these things whomping away in the distance back home…..thanks Sis !

After the marathon of the two SEAC B-24s of last year, I was hoping that this one would be a little quicker and easier.  But while the kit itself didn’t present too many problems, it did still take me about 4 months to complete. Years before I bought the kit, I’d snapped up the Italeri detail set at a pretty good 90% off; I used the relevant parts of this with much of it invisible in the cockpit unfortunately. I added a couple of bits of wire to the searchlight, hoists and hooks, and weathering is pretty much restricted to replicating a dusty floors, tyres and steps.  I didn’t get around to fitting the rear ramp actuators, and that suits me fine because I prefer it with the ramp door poised semi closed to show the Chinook shape off a bit better.

So, here it is, comments good bad or indifferent welcome as usual.

Cheers

Gaz

What a beautiful job you`ve done of this,......... I saw the very same Wokka in this same scheme on exercise in Germany in 1989,....... obviously 7 Sqn were helping out 18 Sqn on what was a very big Brigade exercise. This is how I remember the Chinook in the grey/green/black scheme and it is lovely to see one in these colours,

Lovely neat job.

I had one of those fly past below me when I was hillwalking in Glenshee a few years ago.

"Oh-ho," said one of my aviator mates, "He's flying IFR."

"Instrument Flight Rules?" I asked, puzzled.

"No. I Follow Road-signs."

Probably a very old joke, but the first time I'd heard it.

Very nice indeed. They regularly fly over my home in Kent. They're so distinctive even my kids id them long before they're visible!

I know what you mean, it's been about 20 years since I last heard one but I reckon I could still pick one out in a crowd (so to speak). :)

Cheers

Lovely work. A Wokka in its original scheme, nice.

The proper scheme.  I never saw one in any other colour I don't think.

Thanks everyone for your feedback

Cheers
