Revell 1/72 Boeing B-17G OUTHOUSE MOUSE

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

This is my recently completed entry for the Boeing B-17 single Type Group Build.

I have built the Revell 1/72 B-17G as 42-31636 OUTHOUSE MOUSE from the 323rd Bomb Squadron of the 91st Bombardment Group. The model was pretty much as out of the box with some minor additions to the flight deck and general interior not much of which can be seen. the decals are a mix of the kit set and the Kits World War Bird sheet for the subject aircraft and the colour scheme was as per the Kits World instructions. I have used oil paint and weathering powders to 'distress' the general appearance and to try and achieve a faded paint effect.

The 'Frying Pan' display board is scratched and I have used the very nice Airfix USAAF Bomber re-supply set for the vehicles.

The build thread is here:

Apologies for the image quality, my DSLR decided not to play anymore so I had to use an ancient compact.

Have a Sunday morning thread bump for sharing your great little (relatively speaking 😁) B17 dio.

Nicely done, and I had to go look at your WIP to see the effort you put in, so, extra smartie points for doing such a nice interior not so visible in this thread but was over there.

Thank you.

Truly a mix of excellent and missed work. Unfortunately Revell B-17s require much more work in order to look good. OOB it just isn't on the same level as the rest.

Actually I disagree, In comparison to the other kits built out of the box for the GB I have just taken part in, the Revell kit is more than adequate OOB, It just depends on you point of view, to which, of course, you are more than entitled. Personally I am very happy with the level of detail and overall shape of the kit, yes it has its (minor) faults, but what kit doesn't?

This Fort looks phantastic! I love the setting and the vehicles, too. There is much more reality in a well-done diorama than in the model alone. This one compliments the plane superbly.

Mark,

Very nice build- best one I have seen so far of the Revell kit- the extra detailing looks to be very well done, as well. I really like what you did with the vehicles; it's a shame they are more accurate than the kit, but it does look nice built up in the hands of somebody who knows how to model.

Got to be one of the very best B-17's that I've seen.  Your build thread was great - always such a shame that you cant see all that lovely detail once it's all buttoned up.

The paintwork and weathering is flawless both on the aircraft, vehicles and dio.  Superb work Mark and very well presented.  Your photo's really do show it off to it's best.

Fantastic B-17 and diorama!

I love the iconic look of these battle veterans sitting on a tarmac or in a service bay.

The weathering and panel shading on your build is superb.

Excellent work on all the accessories too!

👍👍

Many thanks to all for the comments on OUTHOUSE MOUSE. I can honestly say that it was a really enjoyable build and the first time I felt that I got to grips reasonably successfully with weathering a model.

Cheers,

Mark.
