Any aftermarket 1/48 recce Hurricane decals?

I have a couple of 1/48 Hurricane kits (Mk.I/II Trop, Mk.IIC) that I would like to do as recce versions, but I can't seem to source any aftermarket decals. I do have the old Almark 1/48 P.R. Markings Europe sheet (A48-26), but I have had it for so many years, I don't know if it will fall apart on hitting water. Plus the "clear" film is really dark in spots.  Any info would be useful.

Thanks for those links. I had seen those decals, but it's hard for me to justify the cost of buying a whole decal sheet, when I will only use one of the markings in it, never the others.

<EDIT>I just ordered the Iliad decals from a US vendor.

Hi Larry

Both the decals sheets mentioned I'm at least wary of,  in as much as they have several inaccuracies or schemes which I know of no photos for, (the orange radar calibration is an example)

This maybe of interest

Note, this is one easy to without specialist decals,  just need to make an 'L'

 4 Sqn. Indian Air Force , Mk.IIc LB835/L.

A IIC with added camera hatch,  (see link)

black spinner, Dark Green/Dark Earth over Medium Sea Grey I presume,  most likely supplied with DFS w/ Ocean grey, and this overpainted in theatre.

this post has some useful images

I'd be interested to know more on this,   I'm guessing a very faded DFS, from the Sky band, perhaps @Seahawk  might be able to look this up.  This is one of the 'bosun blue' planes, IMG_0675_zpsycmdradc.jpg&key=06ab8f13edd

The 1962 Mason Hurricane book captions this "Hurricane PR II, DG630, (previously Mk.I V6535) of 208)AC) Sq photographede at Kabrit in 1942. Note ventral camera housing."  Underwing roundel just about visible,  I know you have seen the linked thread, but for ease of reference.

Air Britain not that much help, I'm afraid: 73/33/208, SOC 6/9/45.

73 was in North Africa until mid-43 when it converted to Spitfires and moved to Italy.  33 was in North Africa until returning to UK in Jun 44.  208 was in North Africa during 1942, Iraq/Syria in 1943 and Palestine (brief interlude only) and Italy during 1944.

The fuselage band is painted (or repainted) around the serial so I couldn't be too definite about its being in Sky or an overall DFS scheme.  NB white/Sky spinner, rather than the Red North Africa theatre marking.

I just got in the Iliad Designs decal sheet, and I plan to do the Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIb BN125 681 Sqn India 1943, in overall blue.

The instructions state that the color was Dark Mediterranean Blue, but I have no idea what color that matches in available model paint. My preferred paint is Testors Model Master enamels, but I can always order a different brand, if there is one that has a match. The only dark blue color with an FS595 "close" match is 25051 for Dark Blue ('royal blue'), mentioned in Eyes For The Phoenix, in their "British Camouflage Colour Equivalents" chart.

Update: I just noticed that Eyes For The Phoenix has a photo of BH125 and mentions that it was finished in the unit's special 'Royal Blue' paint, so I guess I need to find some paint that matches FS 25051.

Update 2: I just ordered some Tamiya X-03 Royal Blue paint. It's gloss, which will help when applying decals, but the color looks about right. I will just have to apply an overall flat topcoat, I assume?

I used a mix for my malta hurricane that is Two parts mediterranean blue & four parts gloss sea blue. This will get a dark bosun blue. rNChZby.jpg

Its my understanding the indian and palestine based aircraft may actually have been in this scheme/color ? But thats my opinion

Which brand of paints did you use?

Was the real aircraft actually in a glossy finish? It's hard to tell based on the available B+W photos.

Vallejo make a Dark Mediterranean Blue (71-313).

Ooops sorry about that Larry, they're both Vallejoair the mediterranean blue is 71.111 and gloss sea blue 71.295 . No they're were not glossy, I'm still working on mine and haven't flat coated it yet.

Bosun blue is what was good for Malta, and it is your choice as to what works best for your model. I just thought i would pass my info on to help give you some options. I look forward to seeing your finished Hurricane.

I am slightly confused, as Vallejo Model Air shows up as UK Mediterranean Blue, AND as USAF Light Blue.

It really doesn't look dark enough to become a dark Bosun Blue, but maybe the pics don't show the true shade of the blue.

Hi Larry... Mine is the first one. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vallejo-Model-Air-71-111-UK-Mediterranean-Blue-17-ml-Bottle-/111803643393

I used two drops of that mixed with four drops of USN Sea blue.

https://acrylicosvallejo.com/en/producto/hobby/model-air-en/usn-sea-blue-71295/

That combination is my mix for Bosun blue. I used the uk mediterranean blue to lighten the sea blue. Mine looks darker than it is by a bit in real life. Here is a link to a thread i started about Malta Hurricanes.

Tonyot’s build and help is where i got my ideas from. His build is in post 18.
