Uncle Dick
Came across this image of a Thai Navy AV-8A (I realise they have been retired) am wondering whether this was a realistic load? i.e. drop tanks on outer wing pylons or just the display team being a little adventurous with a fictional load that was never carried in real life as I cannot recall seeing a GR.1/3 or AV-8A/C or SHAR with fuel tanks on outer wing...for that matter were the outer stores hard points plumbed to flow fuel... https://imgproc.airliners.net/photos/airliners/1/9/9/5368991.jpg?v=v4ce8b19718e Edited February 1, 2019 by Julien Dont embed Airliner.net pictures
Selwyn
On first generation harriers if you removed the fuel nozzles you could fly empty 100gal tanks on the outboard pylons. When RAF harriers went on deployment It was usually with the large 330 gal ferry tanks in the inner position and empty 100 gals outboard, on arrival the ferry tanks were removed and the smaller tanks fitted. Uncle Dick
Thanks Selwyn, So empty tanks outboard were a real load for ferry purposes; just to clarify could they be used outboard (not empty) for fuelling the jet in flight?
Selwyn
No there is no fuel piping to the OB pylon stations , and as I said in my original answer to fit them to the OB stations you had to remove the fuel tank nozzles. Selwyn
exdraken
these are ex Spanish Armada Aircraft (AV-8S Matador) nice to see at least one is still in good shape! same rules regarding tanks should apply for all first generation Harriers! Not sure though if the larger tanks were even carried by the AV-8A / S at all!

I forget the exact size, but I think they might be somewhere around 300gals? Mark.
