Hello Giorgio !

I use Alclad II with great pleasure... I just wait that SWMBO left home and I open the window...

Now !! As I like the smell of napalm on the morning side

I must say that the Alclad smell is pleasant for me :rofl2:

Thank for the pic, I'll share mine... If I find it back...

About the unmasking og gun's barrel...

Don't you worry, you're not alone....

I did worst, believe me, But That's Aloyus's fault...

Great work on your Tony !! I mean the 1/48 one ! Hum ! You know !!

Sincerely.

Hello Giorgio,

Here it is, I did it last week

Aluminium Alclad II over a coat of canned black primer from Vallejo

WP_20190228_20_19_55_Pro

Knowing your skill in painting beside my "try to not too mess it up" way...

You will do some stunning job with this stuff

Hope that I did'nt disturb too much.

No disturb at all, CC - thanks!  Alclad smell is pleasant for you, eh? Well, that explains a few things ....:rofl: Just kidding

Hi everybody, here's WE progress report :)  Not much time for modelling, still I managed to carry out some more painting.

First, though, I had to do some repairing: I managed to snap off the propeller mounting peg while handling the model for painting :chair: I should have known this wasn't strong enough to hold the model weight .... live and learn, I guess

reapir1

so I fit a steel rod in it (from a paper clip), rolled some tape on for thickness and put back the rigid plastic pipe I used to hold the model while painting

reapir2

I'll  refine the whole thing when the time to attach the propeller comes

Painting, as I said. First off, I masked the ailerons and elevators to airbrush some Vallejo grey primer on

painting4

and here's a shot straight from the spray booth

painting5

Then I airbrushed Tamiya Gloss Aluminium on the ailerons

painting6

Bottom view

painting7

I must say I'm quite happy with that, it's exactly the effect I was after - a sort of dull aluminium, to represent the doped alu paint used on the canvas surfaces

While the alu paint was out, I wanted to fix this:

repair3

There was this seam aft of the radiator that just stood out and bothered me; so I sanded the paint away and  put some CA mixed with flour on it

repair4

then more sanding and polishing, and I could eventually respray Tamiya Gloss Alu

repair5

Happy now :)

Next was the anti-glare band on the top front fuselage; masking

painting8

and after airbrushing Tamiya Flat Black with a few added drops of Tamiya X22 Gloss Clear, thinned with IPA

painting9

painting10

Before the paint could cure completely, I did some chipping along the panel lines and the hinges, using a toothpick and a Dremel brass brush (hand operated, though )

painting11

Then more masking, for the wing rubber patches (walkways, I guess?). I needed a couple of round masks, so out came the punch tool

painting12

and here's the mask in place

painting13

Masking completed

painting14

I forgot to mention that, for all the masks I used on this build, I always brushed on some Alclad Aqua Gloss along the mask edges, to prevent any paint leaks

painting15

The instructions call for XF85 Rubber Black here, so I mixed some Tamiya Flat Black, Flat Brown and Neutral Grey and airbrushed it (thinned with IPA)

painting16

painting17

Should look good after a black wash. For the moment, I sealed this and the anti-glare band with a light coat of Alclad Aqua Gloss

painting18

Last job for the WE was to complete the gear doors: here they are, after a flat white drybrush, a black tempera wash and a flat clear coat

painting19

Same for the actuators

painting20

That's it then, comments welcome.

Very neat job on the walkways and anti-glare panel, but I think you need a bigger hammer with your punch set. 😁

john

Thanks John! It's the smallest hammer I have, but it's not very heavy...

When I scrolled down and saw it I thought 'oh no, something's gone wrong with the paint and the Hien is in a thousand pieces!' - bet it would be heavy enough for that!!

Glad I was wrong as another Giorgio masterpiece continues apace!

Nice work G!

I think I already did my part of damage by snapping off the propeller peg, Keith - should be enough for this kit 🤞🏻   Thanks for the appreciation!

Sharp masking sir, no chance of over spray.

Positively no overspray, Simon - that annoys me a lot :frantic:  And thanks for the praise, mate!

Hi everybody - quick mid-week update. I masked for the yellow bands on the wing leading edges and gear bay doors

painting22

painting23

painting24

All done in "no overspray" mood, s you can see

Then I airbrushed on a mix of Tamiya Flat Yellow and Tamiya Red, thinned with cellulose thinner, and after several light coat I had this

painting25

painting26

bottom side

painting28

Some paint lifts occurred upon masks removal :badmood:

painting27

painting29

gear doors came out fine, though

painting32

and I did spray the same mix on the prop blade tips too

painting30

painting31

The sliding canopy received a flat clear coat (Italeri, which is not dead flat) and got unmasked

painting33

painting34

A lot of touch ups to do here :wall: :wall: The paint just flaked off in many spots while removing the masks - I guess due to the underlying Sand Yellow coat rather than to the Gloss Aluminium, but I'm not 100% sure...

That's it for the day, comments welcome

Nice job, Giorgio, despite the frustrations. Hopefully straightforward to touch up the lifted areas.

Should be so, Chris 🤞🏻 Thank you

So, some paint lifts, what the hell, it`s modeling.

Nowt that a touch here and there can`t solve.

Looks great Giemme.

 I guess you're right, Simon. Thanks for the praise

Colourful.

Character-full work.

Sorry about the grievous de-masking on the canopy Giorgio; every build seems to hold one nasty surprise doesn't it? (You'll sort it in short order though...)
