Popular Post paulsbrown Posted January 26, 2019 Popular Post Posted January 26, 2019 17 years ago I emailed Flankerman and asked if he had any pictures of the 1988 Su-27M/Su-35 prototype that was later left at Monino. He very kindly got back to me with a goldmine. The reference photos he sent me were a game changer as he had discovered the disruptive scheme was mirrored underneath and had a bundle of photos to illustrate it. I loved the Ferris like camouflage but also the new Su-27M nose profile with the traditional cropped fins as later Su-27Ms had the squared tips. I did all the hard work expected of an Academy and Sol conversion way back then and put it away; it sat in the box (with the occasional peeks) until this year. I've made a real effort to finish unfinished projects and clear the stash a bit. I'm pleased to say it's the last 1/48 Academy for me (7 built)! I'm now looking forward to all the newer companies much improved kits. Colors were mostly AKAN mixes, Neomega cockpit, Eduard etched details, DANmodels intake covers, Armory wheels and one of Haneto's (Fairy-Hobby) beautiful corrected canopies. The decals were from Begemot except for the stars which were hand made. I s I spent the last few days repairing my Su-37 Terminator so I could take a photo similar to this one of 711 and 701 together. i And finish with a hat trick. 79 5 1
Frank083 Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 Amazing bird & very attractive color scheme! Bravo! Frank 1
Harold55 Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 This is spectacular! Wonderfully done right down to the tow bar. 1
Flankerman Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 That is superb work Paul - glad to have been able to help. It's on my 'to-do' list in 1/72 - along with a few others. You have captured the look exactly - even down to the stress sensors on the wings and fins in pink putty. It's a shame that the sole example at Monino has now been re-painted in totally inaccurate 'standard' colours.... Ken 1
Mig88 Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 Fantastic job! Well finished! Really nice scheme too. Miguel 1
PZL104 Posted January 27, 2019 Posted January 27, 2019 What a wonderful built Su in a striking camo! A perfect finish and idea! Very impressive 1
Baldy Posted January 27, 2019 Posted January 27, 2019 Beautifully modelled and finished. Very interesting aircraft. Love it! Cheers Malcolm 1
markmcguire25 Posted January 27, 2019 Posted January 27, 2019 Very nice build with a great finish! I had that Sol kit and the Sea Flanker kit, but they didn't survive Texas heat in the attic, so I'm really happy to see someone complete the conversion. Better than I would have done, to boot. 1
paulsbrown Posted February 2, 2019 Author Posted February 2, 2019 I've added a couple more photos for fun of Su-27M 701 along with another Su-27M, the thrust vectoring 711 "Su-37 Terminator" (T10M-11). I was lucky enough to see 711 at Farnborough and was even given a lapel pin of it in the Sukhoi pavilion.
adrianm2 Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 Keep them coming Paul. Don`t know how you do it but they just keep getting better and better. Big fan of your work mate. Adrian 1

The one currently on my bench is gonna look good next to 701. 22 hours ago, exdraken said: Thanks for the family shot as well! When my new shelves are done and 2 more Flankers repaired I'll do a photo of all of them. It will be more like a little parade compared to an elephant walk that Flankerman could put on. 1
Head in the clouds. Posted February 3, 2019 Posted February 3, 2019 Excellent, and I do like a prototype or two. The work around the engines is superb and really stands out for all the right reasons. 1
