I'm particularly paying attention to the bulwark construction as I've yet to do this.

I would suggest triangular pieces of plastic card kept at 90' to waterline . . . .

Looking forward to seeing how you are going to facet those upper plates as per pic 3 T.I.D 164.  Also keen to see how you tackle the tyres .. +/or the "rope" bumper/fender on the bow.

 Want want want . . . . .

Work in progress as they say 😉

Personally wish it had been 1/72

As Stuart said .....................

OK Kool kids - I hear you

At my current rate of progress - a tug will be arriving just about the same time the Glaciers roll south over Brecon again.

Watching, learning and keen to see that bumper and those tyres ;)

Keep it coming

Starting fixing bulwarks

@robgizlu don't think I'm going to have any problems replicating the battered bulwarks,

Started building up the top of the stanchions. Using 0.3mm sq to form a laminate of the top rail

P1090725E (Copy)

The other problem was bring the bulkhead round in a nice sweep. Possible cunning plan

Plastic tube the correct size

Next size down use to locate and possibly location for forward samson post

Once it's all secured and feathered in I reckon it will work a treat

Thanks for stopping by

Have you remembered the water run-off holes in the lower bulwark...just asking?

No Mate,

Just want to get the top sorted, i.e. get it a rigid as possible before I start cutting holes in the bottom :analintruder:

Work continues with bulwarks starting with a cock-up 😞

The port aft section got all out of shape so it had to be cut out

This will give you some idea how much curve is reqd on the bottom edge to marry with the deck and incline inwards

Don't you just love it when a plan comes together . . .

As can be seen part one of the rubbing strakes can be seen

A touch of filler, the stern capping rail and a clean up and I'm calling the hull done for now

Thanks for looking in

Great stuff are you going for the left to rust away look or the well worked battered look.

At this time probably thinking along the lines of well worked. Not sure if it will be RN or civy. RN I would imagine would be better kept . . .

Not looking forward to doing my bulwarks but we're here to learn.

If I might suggest a series of triangles with the top cut off, for fixing capping piece. The stanchions are set at 90' to the waterline and 90' to the ship side. To strengthen deck joint a thin of plastic can be added to deck/stanchion joint as a welded plate. The bulwark as you've seen from mine is going to be curved. Hold your soon to be bulwark against the hull side ensuring it leans into contact with the stanchions and mark along the deck. Cut and fair in. When you're happy trim for height leaving some spare, the cap rail is fixed to this and stanchions then trimmed. With the shape of your stern the bulwark is going to be almost circular in shape. I might be tempted to do this area first then fair the sides to these  fixed points. Note the stanchions are at a more acute angle at the stern.

I hope this helps you to get going in the right direction

Thanks for all your kind comments

Nice work on the hull Kev.

An RN tug would be a great subject.

Reminded me of the movie 'The Key', filmed on board HMS Restive (W39) an Assurance class rescue tug.

  • 2 weeks later...

Work continues with the superstructure

I've decided it's going to be easier if I build this off the hull

With this in mind I have formed a lamination that follows the sheer line with positive pin location

Let building commence

Got to say the wildlife is more colourful here and noisier

Given the colour and the noise I was wondering if @Martian Hale was on a spying mission
