I assume you've seen my little I'd pic, so 'Ooh err matron!'. Was in a teenage heavy metal band in my distant youth called ' God's white telephone'. I played bass

but could never remember how we came up with the name...😋

If you can remember the 60s, you weren't there. Or so they tell me...??

Sorry to butt in but I thought a bit of modelling was in order. 😉

Duck boards, at this scale I found the only way was to CA glue the spacing strips to glass. Form the board and cut out

P1090374 (Copy)

Result

P1090378 (Copy)

A few bits temporally added. Namely wheel and stand. Magnetic compass and telegraph

P1090386 (Copy)

P1090384 (Copy)

Experimenting with painting planking, Painting, mask, different colour/width etc.. Top sample just undercoat.

P1090373 (Copy)

All painted with Burnt Sienna oil

P1090392 (Copy)

P1090391 (Copy)

P1090390 (Copy)

The figure is there for scale. The question for the jury is which looks better or are both overscale. The insides of the bridge are normally painted metal but I fancied warming it up. Have you got any thoughts?

The duckboards are brilliant. When I did WWI aeroplanes in plywood, my aim was to understate a lot, scale wise you can't really see grain.

I agree, the grain at small scales can't be seen.  Better to go over scale to see the grain.

The modelling is exemplary as usual but to interrupt serious debate; how very dare you Kev!

Not sure I understand what you mean by over scale, is it the planking or effect? As to the warmer wood grain interior, definitely yes, I think a painted interior wood look very plain in thus small scale, IMHO of course. :) The duck boards look spot on to my eye.

Thanks for your input folks....

Decision made. Whilst I'm pleased with the effect of the planking it's way over scale (1/200). Secondly the colour is far to vivid in scale.

So a step forward but it stays on a back burner whilst I uncross my eyes.

Re  Started work with the cowl vents. For anyone interested here's how I did it

Whittled the two plug sizes and then pull moulded the cowls. Plug on the left

P1090586 (Copy)

Cut the tip of, due to the size I need to find a way to trim it to size. So I drilled a suitable hold to hold it snuggly whilst I slid a sharp blade around. Finish is obtained with sandpapering level with the wood

Attached to the tube part of the vent

Various hatches FW tank  plus stove vents

More soon

Thanks for stopping by

remind me again how big is this thing or do you just have a big pen and tools

1/200

I can ensure you that I have nothing oversize 😉

The hull length is 117mm o'all. The cowls are 2.5 and 1.2mm
