thorfinn
I've built a small squadron of the of the old Minicraft DC-3's over the years, but this was my first of the newer Roden offering. I must say, it's a lovely kit, correcting several of the former kit's more notable weaknesses, such as the short fin/rudder height and the engine spacing. Mods for the RCAF version were minimal, chiefly cutting off the tail cone of the civil version (which Roden left on this C-47 issue) and slight alterations to the antenna layout. Paints were Tamiya acrylics on the 'topside' and MM grey acrylic primer on the undersides. I used a little thinned enamel wash to take the 'toy' sheen off the NM paint job and to give it a bit of a 'lived in' look, but kept weathering to a minimum: from the photographs available, it looks like the proud crews kept these birds pretty 'tidy' throughout their service lives. This was also my first go at the lovely decals from Leading Edge, who specialize in Canadian subjects. The decals themselves were nearly ten years old (though very carefully stored), but other than being a little 'stiff' here and there, performed beautifully. No signs of cracking or splitting, nice deep color, and they settled down well with minimal setting solution needed. A quick and most enjoyable build.

Baldy
Really beautiful Dakota, particularly bearing in mind the scale. Nice presentation too. Love it! Cheers Malcolm

MartinSK
Very nice Dakota...great weathering-looks like in 1:72. Panel lines does not seem so deep and wide which is very nice.
Dan_RAFBC
Very well done, would pass as 1/72!
Mark Harmsworth
That gets a 'gosh' and a 'wow' from me. In 1/144 that's impressive work. Congrats. Mark
Turbofan
Love it! The Roden is a really gorgeous model of the C47 and DC3 with lovely crisp detail but the extras you've added bring it to life even more. As others have said it could easily pass for 1/72. I'm inspired to dig mine out soon. Cheers, Ian Edited January 19, 2019 by Turbofan 1
thorfinn
Thanks, one and all, for your very kind words! The Roden is indeeed a cracking little kit...and a nice change from the constant 'teeth gritting' I seem to recall from the various Minicraft builds. Having acquired a small bushel of marking sets for the type and scale...and having home-made a few others...I shall certainly be giving the Roden kit another go-round, soon. colin
You've made a cracking job with that, especially in 1/144, which can come out looking too toy like due to the small scale
Viking
Yes, I'm also convinced that it must be 1:72nd! Excellent job, it looks so real in those photographs. Cheers John
modelling minion
An excellent job on your Dak Greg. I like the post war Canadian schemes as they are colourful and much more eye catching than Olive Drab.

Terry1954
A very nice job. I have completed a couple of Minicraft DC-3's and have a couple of Roden C-47's in the stash. Looking forward to building those after seeing this. I have some great memories of seeing RCAF C-47's at Gatwick in my youth in the 1960's. Thanks for sharing.
