VF-41 Bombcat

Hello

I'm looking for some help regarding VF-41s Bombcats September 1995.

I know VF-41 were the first USN squadron to drop laser guided bombs in combat using the Tomcat (Bombcat) 5th Sept 95 on a ammo  dump in Eastern Bosnia.

What I'm after is does anybody know the Modex  and Burea Numbers of the two aircraft involved, also the crew rank names, and lastly the type of munitions used.

A lot to ask I know but any help would be gratefully appreciated.

RR (Chris).

Munition used is easy, they were 1,000 lbs GBU-16 LGBs. Lasing was provided by a couple of F/A-18-

The two Tomcats would have also carried AA missiles, for sure one Sidewinder and probably one Sparrow on the opposite pylon, I'll see if I can find out more on this

I'll also see if I can find any info on the aircraft involved and get back to you. One was piloted by the squadron CO but I don't know if he was on Modex 101 or on some other aircraft of the unit.

As Giorgio has said, 2x GBU-16s were carried by the jets (the F/A-18s that lazed the targets also had the same ordnance). A pair of AIM-9s were carried, not sure of any other A2A ordnance (AIM-7/54) on the shoulder stations but it is quite possible that they did.

The CO who flew the mission was  Cdr Bob Brauer - he possibly flew BuNo 160898 (Currently on display at the Palm Springs Air Museum, California) which was the first jet to actually drop its bombs in anger (according to the museum).

I'm sure Giorgio will turn up more information, that's just what I could find from a couple of references I have.

I think the first link below is to  BuNo 160898 described by DaveJL above; no idea if the markings shown at the Palm Springs Museum are the same ones it wore in combat- pretty careless of the photographer to not shoot the BuNo! See if the other links are helpful- maybe @Tailspin Turtle can be more informative1
