FOCUS ON HOBBY MASTER DIECAST

TIGER HOBBIESLIMITED

Recommended Posts

Back in 2006 a new Diecast company formed after the parent company of then Corgi (Before Hornby owned them) had business problem declaring chapter 11 the USA,  The factory was developing a new line of Diecsast models for the US market for Corgi.   The factory then formed its own brand name Hobby Master to use the tooling in development,  these tooling were offered to all the major UK established diecast importers, but at the time turned down by them as they could not see any potential in a range trying to compete with Corgi, which at the time was dominant, but also in trouble.

By good fortune Gary's Models the forerunner of Tiger Hobbies took a chance on the first six 1/72 tooling's and our first imports landed in August 2006, these were 1/72 F6F Hellcat, SBD Dauntless, JU87G Stuka, Mig 21, TBM Avenger, and the F104 Starfighter.   Every month since August 2006 Hobby Master have delivered into the worldwide market 10 to 20 releases every month without fail, and the range is now the largest quality diecast Aircraft range possible outselling Corgi worldwide by a factor of at least 10.

Below are the next 5 months release due into the UK for the diecast collector.

Yet you will not find these in the run of the mill hobby shops, but we have a band of dedicated specialist diecast sellers working hard to look after UK Collectors.

Not every release will sell in numbers in the UK Market, as HM have lots of world wide distributors so all the eggs are not in one basket, but our sellers have a vast choice.

One subject sums up Hobby Master the 1/72 F4 Phantom II, with over 100 releases of either J, C,D, E,F and G plus F110 Spector, and well over 100,000 world wide sales, and we have not even touched the UK versions.

Link to pictures of all the HM F4 Releases.

If you are a diecast seller and not selling HM you are really missing a trick.

Given that the British model market is dominated by 1/72 WW2 aircraft, yet HM have only one such release in six months (and that Japanese, which is generally far from popular here), I think I can see why sellers are reluctant to give greater coverage to the range.  Lots of nice stuff, true.  I'm sure some will sell well, but as a range they are not exactly aimed at the UK, are they?  Which is fine for the individual buyer with other tastes and plenty do like modern stuff or are willing to go a little exotic, but how many?

Given that the British model market is dominated by 1/72 WW2 aircraft  (replace with saturated), hence you go for the gaps in the market.

Also not bothering to read the script it states

Yet you will not find these in the run of the mill hobby shops, but we have a band of dedicated specialist diecast sellers working hard to look after UK Collectors.

Not every release will sell in numbers in the UK Market, as HM have lots of world wide distributors so all the eggs are not in one basket, but our sellers have a vast choice.

Further to this

HM have limited WW2 Tooling as this is fairly well covered by Corgi, and others, the growth market is 1/72 Jets and this is where HM leave Corgi behind.

HM outsell Corgi even in the UK though some cannot accept that, but looking below at the range, and every month our container discharges 10 to 20 releases every month and have done since 2006.

Some we may only import 36 to 48 units, other 300 to 600, but they all add up.

Worldwide sales figures for 1/72 Jets is vast, with the following continuing to sell in good numbers.

Considering Graham's comment, does HM outsell Corgi by a factor of at least 10 in the UK?

As a bit of general interest for readers, Corgi and Airfix both come under Hornby. Corgi make pre-assembled and painted metal diecast planes. Some of their new releases are based on Airfix kits (no surprises there :chef: ) and examples include P-51D, P-40B, Bf 109E  It's suspected the new Corgi British F-4 Phantom is based on the Airfix, however Corgi is releasing it in 1/48 scale.

In the UK it is closer but every month 10 to 20 release arrive at Tiger Hobbies and is distributed to our trade customers, you are lucky to get 1 or 2 releases in a month from Corgi as far as Aviation goes.  Individually a Corgi release may out sell a individual HM release, but when you are doing 10 to 20 every month without fail, these all add up so overall it is more than possible that HM outsells Corgi in the UK as far as pure model numbers go in Aviation.

In the last 24 hours a container landed at Tiger Hobbies and discharged 2000 HM models over a number of releases, as well as Rye Field models and Star Ace figures , this happens every month (sometimes up a few more than the 2000 that landed yesterday).  All the HM model have been distributed other than 50 of HA7850 1/48 Spitfire VB RF-D 303 Sqn, which is this months stock item.

For the last 12 or so years we have been call Bull sh*tters by certain folks who will not accept what as been going on in the UK diecast aviation market, and it is as if we and HM do not even exist.
