Are Hong Kong Models kits over-priced?

Overpriced or too expensive?

I'd like to replace my family car with a Roll-Royce, as it would look smart in the driveway, but I can't afford it. Does that make it overpriced?

Personally I can't or won't use that kind of money on a model, given my track record of non-completions. My hobby is just an excuse to get some free time from domestic chores, right?

I'd just concentrate on what is attainable.

Oh im glad this question came up. YES YES YES they are overpriced . I have built the B-25 , B-17 and some of the mosquitos.  The slide molding they use i just dont get , and i have said this before. I dont see why we need wings that are molded in more or less one piece. It just moves the problem of the fit to the trailing edges and can be a real PITA. In my opinion  they still lack detail for the money. Case in point. B-25 prop blades needed replacing or modifiying , wheels were not that good , fit was a bit iffy in places.   B-17s same problem  , lacked some detail , dodgy fit in places. Now the surface detail to be fair is beautiful on their kits , and they model great subjects.

This whole Lancaster thing though i really dont understand. Yes i love the lancaster but seriously £400??  I would expect a model that doesnt need any aftermarket help. Im also really not impressed with it. The B-17 when it came out was around £299 , the B-25 around the £200. I just dont see the value in this particular kit. People are raving about this kit and bashing a £130 model of the Liberator , which has great interior detail.  Its horses for coarses i suppose but i think my patience with HK kits has run its coarse.

My closing commect on this is Compare a HK mosquito with the Tamiya one of the same price.  No contest really.

It's good to hear everyone's opinions on this subject. This debate could go on for a very long time....

Am I the only who thinks that, once the Wingnut's Lanc comes out later this year, that there will be a number of the HK version appearing on E-Bay and Amazon? I reckon some people will sell their HK's to fund their Wingnuts purchase.... Possibly at a more "reasonable" price? Only time will tell.
