ModellerUK
Hi all I'm looking to start my first AFV model kit, has anyone got any ideas/recommendations or must have Allied kits in their stash? Ideally 1/35 scale Regards
Bullbasket
If it's your first AFV model and you want to do something allied, I would recommend any one of Tamiya's Sherman kits. They do several including the M4, M4A3 and M4A3 (105mm) from their older catalogue, and then the IDF M51 and M1 Super Sherman as well as one of their latest, the M4A3E8. They are all good kits and go together well without any vices. John.
PDH
If you are looking at World War 2 kits then older but still excellent kits are the Tamiya Cromwell and Centaur. Straightforward to build and easy to paint. HTH P
Andrew Jones
An ideal first entry to 1/35 armour would be Tamiya's Cromwell tank , accurate , easy to build and a nice model when finished . Andrew
ModellerUK
I have looked at alot of the Accurate Armour kits, are they worth the extra pennies?
Dads203
Accurate armour are a good source for subjects not covered by mainstream companies, they do require a bucket load of work to get right, you need to have some experience using resin and PE to get the best results.
Nick Belbin
Can I ask what you normally build in which scale if this is your first armour kit? nick

Nick Belbin
I was just thinking in terms of constant scale which 1/48 is ideal for but not 1/32. Tamiya really screwed up* with 1/35 - just imagine some of the vignettes and dioramas we’d have with the aircraft kits we have today. Nick *imho!! dnl42
Tamiya has a nice collection of 1/48 AFVs, including a Tilly for airfield support. Airfix has an Albion Fueler plus some modern AFVs. Hobby Boss also has 1/48 AFVs along with an LCM 3 to further mix it up. LCM 3's were used to take armor across rivers in Europe. They weren't used for armor during Overlord. Edited January 13, 2019 by dnl42 The Albion is from Airfix, not Tamiya
SoftScience
If you've built other models before, then kit complexity should be a non-issue. Kits is kits. What is different about armor modeling is the painting and weathering. So buy and build whichever kit strikes your fancy. That said - avoid Tamiya shermans. They're way oversimplified, to the point of missing key details. If you want a sherman, go with Asuka, or Dragon.
