Meana Catalina! 1/72 RoG PBY-5A Catalina, Aleutians

OOB, RK Decals. This tricolor Cat was based on Attu Island in the Aleutians in 1943-44. RoG rebox of the Academy kit. Very nice kit, no major fit issues. ⭐⭐⭐️1/2

Excellent job on that Catalina! I like this version with the bigger gun turret.

I'm definitely buying this one! The gun barrels OOB are way too thick and the fabric covered surfaces could use a different tone and weathering. Otherwise it looks great.

Lovely build, Only one criticism, you followed the kit instructions for the nosewheel doors, they don't open like that I'm afraid.

Uppersurface weathering, including the fabric-covered areas, but especially the riveted sections are outstanding! Very nice build!

Great cat, lovely finish :coolio:

In general fabric areas should be lighter with top sides far lighter still due to sun light.

Being an Aleutian Cat, there wasn’t the same fading as you’d see on a tropical Cat. My refs showed a lot less wear on Alaskan PBYs. Having spent the last three months there, I can see why. The sun isn’t out much in the winter.

Superb build and finishing!

What you say about the Aleutian environment certainly makes sense to me.

It looks so convincing to me, even without the locale in play.

:goodjob:
